Toward the Unknown Region (Choir with Concert Band - Score and Parts) - Williams, Vaughan - Noble, Paul

This magnificent setting of Walt Whitman's poem established Vaughan Williams's reputation as one of the leading composers of the twentieth century. The idea of a spiritual journey - the passage of the soul from darkness to light, Toward the Unknown Region - is central to the text and fully reflected in the music. Beginning softly and simply, the music follows the text of the poem, building through a Wagnerian chromaticism toward a bold and dramatic climax. This was Vaughan Williams's first major choral piece, and its obvious inspirational qualities made it a success from the first. This arrangement for Concert Band and Chorus adheres to the original orchestration. The choral parts are included in the conductor's score as a reference, but are not part of the set. The choral parts are available for purchase seperately.

Masters inTthis Hall (Concert Band with Optional Choir - Score and Parts) - Noble & Willcocks

Masters in This Hall (alternative title: Nowell, Sing We Clear) is a Christmas carol with words written around 1860 by the English poet and artist William Morris to an old French dance tune. It is said to have a sixteenth-century feel, harking back to a simpler society, in line with Morris's own romanticism. It also has elements of Morris's socialist beliefs, with the poor bringing news of Christ's birth to the Masters in this Hall and a warning to the proud. The carol describes a poor man, emphasized by his rural dialect, drawing his master's attention to the birth of Christ by describing how he had met shepherds travelling to Bethlehem in solemn mood where, joining them, he had seen the Christ child in his mother's arms. The chorus repeats how the birth of Christ has raised up the poor and cast down the proud. This represents one of the Series of Band Arrangements compatible with David Willcocks' Carols for Choirs.

Triumph of the Skies (Concert Band - Score and Parts) - Stalman, Wim

In Hark! The Herald Angels Sing, one of the most sung Christmas chorales in the world, the announcement of Jesus' birth is highlighted. The melody, originally written by Felix Mendelssohn-Bartholdy, has been given words, in which people are called to listen to the glad tidings as sung of by the angels. In their triumphant singing they express their joy and excitement about the birth of Christ. In this work, the chorale Hark! The Herald Angels Sing has been integrated in its entirety, so that it can also be performed with choir and/or community singing.
