Side Partners - Claude T. Smith
The era of old-time concerts in the park comes back to life with "Side Partners." Composed by cornet virtuoso, Herbert L. Clarke, for himself and his long-time friend, Sousa Band trombonist Frank Holton, this delightful piece can be played by two cornets/trumpets, two trombones, two euphoniums, or any combination of these instruments. Feature your two outstanding brass players in this charming work. The accompaniment requires a minimum of rehearsal, and the solo parts are flashy without being overly demanding. An excellent choice also for community bands. Delightful music!

Les Marteaux de La Marine was composed in 1999 as a commission by the Marine Band of the Royal Netherlands Navy. The composition contains three static elements which interchange. Static in this case means that development of the material isnot pursued (by the composer). The first element with which the piece begins is tranquil and colourful. The second element is sharp and incisive, while the third expresses energy. In all elements a repeated tone is the starting point whichexplains the hammers in the works title.The instrumentation is richly variegated with a harp also determining the palette of colours in the slower movements. The composition opens with an atmospheric Larghetto containing fine harmonies in thesoft and subtly moving wood-winds. The introduction breathes an impressionistic atmosphere in which expressive cantilenas and soloistic agile motifs stand out. A strong setting is followed by an Allegro virtuoso containing fast motifs contrasted withshort and rhythmic stars of the various instrumental sections. Trumpets and horns add a virtuoso bugle-call motif. After a short stringendosection, the transparent Larghetto returns with a varied setting of the opening elements. The beautifulleading roles in this section are reserved for cornet (trumpet) and horn. Subsequently, the flashing Vivo starts with continuous movements in triplets from both wood-winds and brass. Next, the opening Allegro re-appears once again and thus LesMarteaux de la Marine ends with a fast and virtuoso climax. Les Marteaux de La Marine was selected as a compulsory grade 6 contest piece for symphonic bands in the Netherlands.

David W. Reeves (1838-1900) was a skilled cornet soloist and band leader. He was called the "Father of Band Music in the U.S.A." He wrote over 150 marches, galops and polkas. In 1981, The Second Connecticut Regiment was named one of the three "most worthy marches" by Col. William Santelmann, Director of the United States Marine Band. This new edition, by another former conductor of the Marine Band, brings the work up to the standards of his former bands library.

"Haven't Met You Yet" is the first single from Canadian singer Michael Bubl's sixth album, Crazy Love, released on August 31, 2009.[1] According to Bubl, the single and its official music video are "about everyone's dream of finding a relationship and love."[2] Bubl co-wrote "Haven't Met You Yet" with Alan Chang and Amy Foster-Gillies, and dedicated it to his then fiance and now wife, Luisana Lopilato (who appears as his love interest in the music video).In 2012, Nick Jonas covered the song in the TV series Smash, so this music can also be used in a TV/Movie theme concert.Soloist opportunities:Attached is a vocal lead that can be used with the arrangement. Commissioned in 1994 by the Royal Air Force, 'Scramble!' is a concert overture for symphonic wind band inspired by images of the RAF's airfields during the Battle of Britain, immortalised for ever in such films as 'Reach for theSky'. The pastoral opening depicts the lull before the storm: the young pilots sitting in wicker chairs outside their barracks on a sunlit morning. The peace is, of course, deceptive, suddenly amid siren sounds, there is a shoutof 'Scramble!', and a rush to the waiting planes. In no time at all the squadron is airborne, heading for a skirmish over the English Channel and beyond. A lyrical central section featuring a solo cornet depicts the stillnessmanypilots described as they flew to engage the enemy, before the battle breaks out once more. For those who returned, it would be only a short while before, once again, they would hear the familiar shout of 'Scramble!'
