The success of Bill Whelan's Riverdance evolved from a concept for music and dance that he established earlier with The Seville Suite, his first major orchestral composition. The Seville Suite was commissioned for Ireland's National Day at the World Expo 1992 in Seville, Spain. Through the score, Whelan tells the story of legendary Irish war hero Red Hugh O'Donnell. At a mere 21 years of age, O'Donnell successfully led a rebellion against the English government in 1593. Johan de Meij's arrangement is a 13-minute adaptation featuring highlights from the original suite.

The Continental Overture was commissioned by the California Band Directors Association [CBDA] and was premiered on February 23rd 1997 at the 40th annual CBDA Conference in Bakersfield [CA] by the California All State Symphonic Band, conducted by the composer. It is a short, dynamic work full of energy and spirit, with a melodic middle section and a spectacular ending. The composer does not try to hide his continental roots: several influences by some of the great European composers can be recognised.

The King's March - Søren Hyldgaard
This lively new work, expertly arranged by Johan de Meij, is taken from the soundtrack of the recently released animated film Till Eulenspiegel. As the composer of music for well-known movies like Bridget Jones?sDiary, Sense and Sensibility and Harry Potter and the Goblet of Fire, Patrick Doyle had already made his name. With the song Non Nobis Domine from the film Henry V, Doyle received the 1989 Ivor Novello Award for Best Film Theme. In close cooperation with the composer, Johan de Meij selected the best material from the Henry V soundtrack for this attractive arrangement, with the unison-sung Non Nobis Domine as a touching finale.
