Story of a Village - André Waignein

This work relates the story of Maasbracht, a town on the banks of the Meuse River in the Dutch province of Limburg. Like all fairy tales, the story begins serenely with ?Once upon a time?? The music evokes the atmosphere of this very pleasant region, where the gentle way of life is the key to happiness. A lively and joyful passage depicts the cheerfulness of the people of Maasbracht. Maasbracht, like many other towns, suffered during World War II: sound colours darken and pictures of destruction run through our mind. In the midst of despair there is hope, from grief comes new life. The future looks promising. The work leaves Maasbracht, looking forward to the 21st century withconfidence. A highly descriptive work that is suitable for any concert or contest situation.

    A Christmas Night

Christmas night evokes a multitude of images within every one of us: memories of sharing delicious meals with our family, of magical encounters, of celebrations, carol singing and music. In this work, Marc Jeanbourquin revisits four great ChristmasEve classics. The first chorale, Adeste Fideles, majestically opens this piece before taking the audience on to the famous Joy to the World. Such an arrangement would not be complete without the equally well-known Jingle Bells ina jazz version, before We wish you a Merry Christmas as a fitting conclusion to the piece. With A Christmas Night, you will be able to express in music the traditional Christmastime wishes to your public.

    A Repton Fantasy - C. Hubert Parry

Sir Hubert Parry (1848-1918) belongs to a forgotten generation of English composers who are often over-shadowed by Sir Edward Elgar, and the result has been that much of their work is little played or forgotten. In Parry?s case, he is now mostly remembered for his hymn tunes, such as Jerusalem and Repton, both marvellous melodies, of course. The latter first appeared in Parry?s oratorio Judith and was adapted as a hymn tune after the composer?s death. The solo part can be played by a trumpet, clarinet or alto saxophone and will give yourchosen soloist a chance to shine.

A Festive Tribute - Johann Sebastian Bach

A Festive Tribute is an arrangement of a splendid chorus whichBach first used in the secular Cantata 207 of 1726, but is perhapsbetter known in its later version, which appears in Cantata 207a, thedescriptively titled Auf, schmetternde Tne der muntern Trompeten, which cannot be adequately translated but means something alongthe lines of 'let the trumpets sound'. While the lyrics are perhaps alittle obsequious, much of the music for this cantata is celebratoryand lushly scored for a large orchestra including trumpets, oboesd'amore and flutes, making it an ideal piece for a concert bandarrangement.

Following the opening, with its beautiful melodies played by different sections, the mood suddenly changes into an allegro ritmico in the minor key with rythmical elements and dynamic harmonics.
