A Tamworth Tapestry (Concert Band - Score only) - Wiffin, Rob

A Tamworth Tapestry was commissioned by the Tamworth Wind Band who gave the first performance in Fazeley, Tamworth, on 27 Apr 2024. In composing it I drew on aspects of Tamworth starting with a short malicious outburst to depict the warlike history of the town's Norman castle. From there the music moves into a slow-flowing minor key movement entitled River Tame. The Celtic derivation of the word Tame means dark and slow-moving. The suite ends with a saltarello - Tomsaete. The Tomsaete were an Anglo-Saxon tribe who lived in the valley of the River Tame and remained around Tamworth throughout the duration of the Kingdom of Mercia. There is also a play on words with the band's conductor - Tom Sears. I combined the saltarello with some allusions to various other Tamworth references including Kingsbury Water Park, Drayton Manor Theme Park, Tamworth Pigs and even a reference to the Robin Reliant!Duration: 6.15

A Little Bit Bossa (Flexible Ensemble - Score and Parts) - Nyhagen, Bjorn Magne

A Little Bit Bossa is, as the title says, a simple bossa nova with its light and characteristic rhythm. Bossa nova is a Brazilian music genre. It is related to samba and has a strong influence from jazz. The genre attracted many famous artists and became widespread through singers and musicians such as Stan Getz and Astrud Gilberto. Today we find a number of bossa nova songs in jazz's standard repertoire. The parts in this piece are written in a way so that also the youngest and least-experienced musicians can play this piece well.Duration: 1.30

Close (A Chorale about Love) (Concert Band - Score and Parts) - Roels, Stijn

Close is a chorale that sings the praises of a universal theme: love. The people who are dear to you are the ones you'd like to keep as close to you as possible, to make sure you can hug them from time to time. This was not always a matter of course during the past COVID period - an absence which many people felt deeply. The desire for the closeness of love is expressed in a beautiful, lyrical melody supported by warm harmonies. After a quiet opening, the music builds up to a grand climax, and it features tender as well as ardent moments. Perfect to dream away, as well as to dwell on the many aspects that belong to love. Hymn for a Hero (Flexible Ensemble - Score and Parts) - Appermont, Bert

This composition was inspired by the life of the German cavalry general Hans Michael Elias von Obentraut (1574-1625). The heroism of the illustrious general is expressed in a majestic hymn. Hymn for a Hero can serve as a separate work but, if desired, it can also be integrated in the four-movement composition A Hero's Tale. Concretely, this means that this flex version, following the opening fanfare, can be played along with the first movement (bars 9-52). Thus, a youth or beginner band can make music and perform together with a band of adults or advanced players.Duration: 2.45

To a Friend (Concert Band - Score and Parts) - De Haan, Jacob

When you have been playing in a band for a long time, you will know that music belongs to the most beautiful moments in life, but also to the roughest times. Making music together can give you strength when things are difficult. To a Friend is a wonderfully comforting work for anyone going through a dark time. Jacob de Haan composed the work for his father in law, Gerard Bosch, a musician to the core. The piece received its first performance just weeks before his passing. On a sun-kissed evening, his friends, the musicians of his two music societies, Oefening Baart Kunst (Practice Makes Perfect) Otterlo, and the Re?nie Orkest Artillerie Trompetterkorps (Reunion Band Artillery Trumpet Corps), played the work for Gerard, an unknowing yet beautiful goodbye. The End of a Love Affair (Flexible Instrument Solo with Concert Band - Score and Parts) - Grottum, Kare - Kjaernes, Bjorn Morten

Kare Grottum is known to most as a pianist and producer by NRK. He was involved in numerous TV productions, both as producer, musician, composer, and arranger. This tune is taken from a CD released in 1992, Fra en musikers dagbok where he brings with him several Norwegian soloists of international class. It is Erling Wicklund who does a brilliant solo on Flugabone which has also used as a starting point for the written improvisation. The arrangement should be played in a slightly swinging way, but not as much as a jazz waltz. Play with the straight eighths and then let it flow, with a faint two against three feeling, which clearly shows up in some places. If you do not have bassoon and oboe, let alto sax and tenor sax make up the duet from 9. Enjoy! Solo Options: C BC Instruments; Bb TC Instruments; Eb TC Instruments. Duration: 4.15

A Christmas Dream (Concert Band - Score and Parts) - Romeyn, Rob

Pure and beautiful, "A Christmas Dream" is a creative, lyrical setting of "Angels We Have Heard On High" for beginning band. A fresh harmonic "twist" gives this a new age feel, adding a lot of interest and intrigue for both the performer and listener. Snippets of other carols are added in creative and subtle ways. It's also very appropriate for more experienced groups that are looking for a change of pace for the holiday concert, but may have limited rehearsal time. A beautifully sensitive holiday selection!
