Mountain March - Wim Laseroms
A fanfare introduces This festive march is introduced by a lively fanfare which leads into the first, playful, melodic line which features a regular dynamic alternation and a light syncopated rhythm. After the traditional bass solo, the first theme returns. The initial theme, performed by piano and cantabile trio, later sounds in a jubilant forte with various figurations in the higher woodwinds. Second to None (Concert Band - Score and Parts) - Sparke, Philip
Second to None is a perfectly suitable title for this work, though it actually refers to "Nulli Secundus", the motto of the British Corps of Army Music, who gave the commission to Philip Sparke. The piece opens with a fanfare, followed by two short quotes from two of the Corp's own marches and a festive Vivace. A more legato central section creates a nice contrast before the work closes with the opening fanfare. A perfect affair!Duration: 6:45

The Benefaction from Sky and Mother Earth (Concert Band - Score and Parts) - Yagisawa, Satoshi
This piece was commissioned by Oyama City Symphonic Wind Orchestra to commemorate their 30th Anniversary. This turns into a quickly moving energetic section with irregular rhythm. This is a short but dramatic piece that will make a brilliant concert opener.Duration: 2:45

An Olympic Celebration - Robert Buckley
An Olympic Celebration is a tribute to the pursuit of excellence and the triumph of the human spirit. This piece was commissioned by The West Vancouver Youth Band for the build up to the 2010 Winter Olympics. The initial "festive fanfare", based on open fifths moving in contrary motion, brings the athletes out into the arena. This leads to the "parade of the athletes" theme. Then comes the establishment of the "heroic theme" in the woodwinds and horns - moving through different sections - until the transition, with an alto saxophone solo and an oboe solo, leading into the "flashback" section. Here we go into the minds of the athletes and the internal and physical struggles thathave brought them to this place. The melody is epic; rich in feeling and full of heart. This moves through various moods until the introduction of the "challenge" theme; a theme stated by the horns and trombones, which passes through the different sections of the band. A restatement of the "flashback" theme, this time triumphant, takes us to a final fanfare of celebration and jubilation.

Buffalo Dances (Concert Band - Score and Parts) - Smith, Robert W.
The lake region around Buffalo, Minnesota, is one of great geographic beauty and historic significance. Originally part of the region known as the Big Woods, the area was covered with hardwoods that were so thick in their overlapping branches, it was difficult to see the road ahead or sky above. The white elm trees grew to six feet in diameter and up to majestic heights of over one hundred feet. The Dakota People lived and prospered in this area between the lakes for 300 years. Buffalo was a favourite hunting and fishing ground for the Dakotas until the arrival of the first European fur traders and settlers. The richness of the natural resources served as a catalyst for modern development, which led to the very progressive region that continues to grow to this day.Buffalo Dances honours the natural beauty, Native-American heritage and the modern prosperity of Buffalo. Beginning with a majestic fanfare, the piece continues with flowing, Native-American inspired melodies over driving rhythmic figures. The centre of the piece is comprised of a simple original hymn song that reflects on the natural beauty of the region. Accompanied by the sounds of Native-American dance, the intensity returns. If one listens carefully the sound of snorting buffalo can be heard amid the festive atmosphere before the return of the concluding fanfare.
