Promised Land is a serious-sounding, new piece for the developing band that sounds much more difficult than it plays, allowing your students to show off while remaining at their ability level. The title has its roots in the ideals of John Humphrey Noyes, who founded the Oneida community in the late 1840s. He built a thriving agricultural and spiritual community that became his "promised land." The music depicts the struggles and triumph of those first settlers in the area, who worked the land and fought for their ideals through much persecution. Promised Land contains all of the rhythmic interest and memorable motives that Sean's music is so known for. It is also an excellent choice for contest/festival.

Rotterdam 1945 was written at the request of Maestro Arjan Tien, the chief conductor of the Marine Band of the Royal Netherlands Navy, to commemorate their 75th anniversary in 2020. 1945 also marked the end of World War II, the year that my home country Holland was liberated from Nazi Germany. My father was born in Rotterdam in 1910, so I have a special bond with this dynamic city. I have used the numbers 1-9-4-5 to create the main theme and translated it into a four-note motif: C - D'- F - G.

This composition is based on the march from Henry Purcell's Music for the funeral of Queen Mary II, a work written in 1694. In this fantasia, various movements flow from one to the next following the main theme: these movements not only elaborate on the theme, but also contrast with it. If you have a large percussion section, Credo might be a perfect piece for your young band. It is very carefully scored and cross-cued, so that almost any size band can perform it. Composed in sonatina form, it is highly energetic and tuneful, and the bass instruments have lots of fun, easy things to play. Credo is very safely scored, with Piccolo, 2nd Oboe, 2nd Bassoon, Contra-Alto Clarinet, 3rd Trombone and Double Bass parts optional. Ranges are very reasonable; the only sixteenth notes in the piece are in the snare drum.
