Song for Sakiko - Bert Appermont
Bert Appermont composed Song for Sakiko during a stay in the cosmopolitan metropolis of Tokyo. "Sakiko" roughly translated means "flower child" and is associated with a dreamy, poetic atmosphere. Appermont used theseassociations as a starting point while composing. Song for Sakiko starts with a very lyrical theme based on a minor third that forms the basis for the entire work. A second theme builds up to the grand finale, which repeats the theme, but in amajor key and the music slowly fades away, like ripples on a pond, as both themes can be heard dissipating into nothingness.

O Waly Waly (A Rhapsody for Band) - Jay Bocook
Dating from the 1600s, the folk song O Waly, Waly (commonly known as The Water is Wide) forms the basis for this well-crafted rhapsody for band. The lyrical opening section features solos on flute and euphonium, as a four-notemotif common to this song and also Carolina (South Caroline's official song) is developed. This motif unifies the entire work. A Celtic flavored Allegro takes over using this fragment, which leads ultimately to a grand Maestososection for the entire ensemble. A creative and dynamic work for contest or festival! Dur: 5:00

Song of Friendship (Concert Band - Score and Parts) - Sparke, Philip
Song of Friendship was commissioned by the Concert Band of Jumonji University, Saitama, Japan and their conductor, Yutaka Nishida. The commission marked the 50th year of Yutaka Nishida's involvement with bands as a player, conductor and radio presenter. The ceremonial Song of Friendship opens with an extended fanfare, largely featuring the brass section. This leads to the main theme, which develops slowly until it is played by the full band. A change of key signals a contrasting central section containing a quiet woodwind chorale, which grows until the return of the triumphant sounding main theme. Elements of the opening fanfare then close the work. Duration: 6.45
