Britten wrote Irish Reel in 1936 as the title music for a documentary film entitled 'Around the Village Green'. It is a bravura piece, exhibiting all the energy and strong orchestral colours typical of the composer at that time,and makes good use of a traditional reel tune with the evocative title'The Bottom of the Punch Bowl'.Guy Woolfenden's transcription for symphonic wind band skilfully captures all the fun and sparkle of this ebullient score.

Its facilities are the largest in Europe and its current president is Caballer Vicente Ramirez, grandson of the founder and third generation. "Fires of Soul" evokes the spirit fireworks, describing the beauty of these fires in all its phases. The Symphonic Overture serve for concert performance or for use accompanying fireworks, and that predominates in a musical composition contrasts of brilliance to get excite the viewer. The ups of "tension" and downs and its spectacular are the basis of this work, not forgetting the lovely sweetness that makes the "lights" fires penetrate our emotional feeling. A Caballer Vicente Ramirez, President of the famed "Pyrotechnics Caballer" for having managed to "dream" with his pyrotechnic art, offering Happiness Humanity. Work composed at the request of the Symphonic Band "Musical Union of Lliria" with affection and pride of all of them and especially the author. This composition was premiered on September 6, 2014, in the auditorium of the Musical Union of Liria (Valencia, Spain) by the "Musical Union of Lliria", leading the author.

In this four-movement suite, every moment sings of a different type of French wine. All these wines have their origins in the little French village of Savigny-les-Beaune in Burgundy and are made by wine-grower Pierre Guillemot. It was theexcellent quality of the wines that inspired Rob Goorhuis into writing this composition. The first three movements deal with three red wines made of the Pinot Noir grape which all bear the Premier Cru designation. The final movement wasinspired by a white wine made of Pinot Blanc and Chardonnay. In the nature of their musical material, the various movements not only give a characterisation of the taste of the wines. they also hint at impressions of the respective vineyards andtheir surroundings. 1st Movement Les Narbantons - Giocoso 2nd Movement Les Jarrons - Gracioso 3rd Movement Les Serpentieres - Festivo 4rd Movement Dessus des Golardes - Vivaci.

This little concerto for clarinet was written for Peter Holligan , a friend of its composer, and the Fife Youth Concert Band (Scotland). The work was based on traditional Celtic music, and consists of three movements. 1. Reel - a fast dance ending in an atmospheric but virtuoso cadenza. 2. Lament - a slow and melancholy song hinting at the sound of bagpipes. 3. A fast and virtuoso dance in 6/8 time with Irish influence. The work is a wonderful audience-pleaser and an absolute 'must' for all clarinet-players. The band too is called upon and by all means does have its part to play in the piece. The Egyptian pharaoh Amenhotep IV, better known as Achnaton, was the second son and successor of Amenhotep III. He reigned the New Kingdom from 1353 until 1336 BC. Achnatons lack of interest in the economic well-being of Egypt ushered ina revolutionary period in Egyptian history. His harsh reign induced much suffering under the population. During this period when it was customary for a pharaoh to have many wives, he had taken his cousin Nefertete to reign as queen at hisside. An elegant and very beautiful woman, she used her influence to ease the turmoil caused by Achnaton. Combined with her grace, her presence at public functions led to a greater popularity among her subjects than the pharaoh enjoyedhimself. Being mostly preoccupied with religious questions, he declared that all the other gods did not exist. There was only one god, the Aten, and it was the sun itself. It was now necessary to change his name: 'Amenhotep' meaning 'the god Amun is satisfied', because he didnt want to be associated with Amun or any of the other deities. He renamed himself 'Achnaton' which means 'servant of the Aten' -- a much more appropriate title! In the sixth year of his reignAchnaton also moved the capital to a brand new city called Achet-Aton ('the Horizon of the Aten') which was where Tel el-Amarna stands today. He did this to further isolate himself from the 'old' religion, since the previous capital Thebes was thecentre of worship of Amun. This new religion created an up rise among the population and high priests. In spite of Nefertetes influence, the falling economy and religious conflict resulted in the decline of the Egyptian empire. Hoping toforget it ever happened, people later tried to eradicate all traces of Achnaton and his successors rule by smashing their statues, mutilating their mummies, and ruining their relief carvings. From that moment on he was remembered as the'heretic king'. This composition was partially funded by the 'Prins Bernhard Cultuurfonds'.

Libby Larsen used three inspirations from her life to write Hambone. First, she was inspired by early rock 'n roll rhythms, particularly those written by Bo Diddley, from her high school days when she had her own rock band. The second inspiration is the African-American tradition of hamboning - clapping and slapping to create fun, new rhythms, and finally the melodies of the traditional cakewalk, reminiscent of Debussy's Golliwog's Cakewalk. The curriculum explores all three of these inspirations with various musical and visual examples, and explains African American oral traditions, linking this piece to places all over the world, from Ghana and the Ivory Coast to Paris, France.
