Johann Wenzeslaus Calliwoda composed Introduction, Theme and Variations opus 128 in 1844, and he dedicated this piece to the virtusoso contemporary Carl Brmann.. This solo work contains a lot of recognizable influences from German early Romanticism. Long dreamy melody lines and jagged character changes are followed through numerous variations. It seems as so the composer wants to show the listener what the absloute technical capabilities of the clarinet are.

The American conductor and composer Uri Hodorov, actually working in Israel, has been inspired by the great Johann Sebastian Bach to write this original, light and rather easy 'toccata and fugue' for symphonic band. The title clearly indicates that, despite the references to the master's model, this composition is contemporary and rather short, in order to be within reach of the average wind band. A nice tribute to old father Back avoiding the ambush of the pastiche.

This arrangment is part of the Alan Parsons Project. This band was founded by sound technician Alan Parsons and composer and session musician Eric Woolfson. During a performance of Night of the Proms in Mannheim, Alan Parsons dedicated te number "Silence and I " to Eric Woolfson. Woolfson died aged 64 in 2009. This symphonically gentle work demands a lot from the brass players of them orchestra, in particular the horns.

£110.40Pomp and Circumstance no. 2 - Edward Elgar
Sir Edward Elgar wrote his Pomp and Circumstance March no. 2 in 1901 and dedicated it to the composer Granville Bantock. Although this second march is less known than the first, it is not less beautiful. A loud call for attention by the brass section is followed by a nice staccato theme with the woodwinds, completed by different instruments in a construction leading to the trio. This trio in major key contains a simple melody written in thirds played respectively by the woodwinds and the brass. The work ends with a short but powerful coda.

After an introduction of great energy appears a quite melodious March that has within it an euphonium solo, itself also very melodic and exhilarating. Following a brief transition arises Romance, lyrical and exciting, finalized by a horn and euphonium solo in dialogue. Suddenly, without warning, arises the apotheosis of the Finale placing clear highlight on the metals. A work of simple structure with a magnificent sound result.

The main idea of this composition for the teacher is to drill in the dotted quarter/eighth note rhythm. Everyone plays this rhythm many times. It has contrasting melodies and plays in both major and minor modes. 1st trumpet's highest note is D. Only the 1st clarinets play above the break.
