The piece was commissioned by Shobi College of Music (Tokyo, Japan) for their entrance ceremony for freshman students in 2010, premiered by Shobi Ceremonial Wind Orchestra (Hirohisa Takanashi, conductor).In the introduction, woodwinds and euphonium play a solemn passage, followed by a brilliant fanfare in brass and percussion. After the heart-warming middle section, banda trumpets and trombones play a polyphonic passage, which leads to a grand and magnificent finale to conclude the work. With its message of endless possibilities and dreams fulfilled, this piece, from the 1971 Academy-award nominated film score of Roald Dahl's Charlie and the Chocolate Factory (1964), by song writing team Leslie Bricusse and Anthony Newley, has remained popular since the 1970s. The tune surfaces three times in the movie, first during the opening title music, then as the feature number by Gene Wilder as he leads his assembled golden ticket winners into the chocolate room, and finally, as part of the "Wonkavator" music at the end. Great fun for all generations, and all generations to come! This arrangement provides a dramatic opportunity to teach expression. Despite its Spanish title, the concert overture Fiesta is really Italian, recalling a festival that I saw several times as a child in the late 1960s while holidaying in a village at the southern tip of the bay of Naples. The date is August 15, the occasion the feast of the Assumption of the Virgin Mary, celebrated with colourful processions and ritual (some, one imagines, pre-Christian in origin), all rounded off with brass bands and home-made fireworks. - Matthew Curtis. Fiesta was originally written for the orchestra of St. Paul's School in London, It has had performances in London's Queen Elizabeth Hall and the Royal Festival Hall where it opened a live broadcast concert in the BBC's International Festival of Light Music, and has made intermittent appearances on the radio ever since. This arrangement for Wind Band will make an excellent festival opener for accomplished bands and is a sure crowd pleaser with its dynamic flare and energy.

The original setting of this beautiful melody was for Strings and Chorus. This Concert/Wind Band version features the brass ensemble, the woodwind choir, as well as the full band. It is intended for combined Band and Chorus, but may be performed by Band alone. It is completely compatible with the published choral edition, except that it is written one-half step lower (E-flat instead of E major). There are no accidentals, and, apart from the instructions for andante and legato, the phrasing is left to the conductor. The simplicity and rich harmonic structure make this an important addition to the repertoire of young bands, and a perfect piece for any band to program for the Christmas season.

Commissioned by the Dean and Chapter of Westminster Abbey as a wedding gift for Prince William and Kate Middleton, this anthem was composed early in 2011, with a brief that it should be about 4 - 5 minutes in length, for choir and organ, with a text from the psalms. The composer writes: 'My first thought was that the text should embrace both rejoicing and blessing, and I chose verses from five psalms which seemed to encompass what I wanted to express on behalf of us all. My next thought was that I wanted to write music which would be welcoming in spirit to the royal couple, their families, and to all the people witnessing this happy occasion all over the world.' This arrangement for Concert Band and Chorus may be performed by band alone.

A tuneful and reasonably easy suite, comprising Fanfare, Lullaby and All at Sixes and Sevens. There are some asymmetric rhythmic challenges in the last movement as implied in its title, but otherwise this suite is not particularly difficult and sets out to be attractive throughout. The Fanfare is vibrant and energetic while Lullaby is very lyrical and occasionally punctuated by harmonic piquancy. All at Sixes and Sevens plays games between 3/4 and 6/8 with some sevens thrown in for good measure.Duration: 8.45

The Book of Urizen is a work for concert band, solo soprano, and a male narrator in which sound collages of religious expressions are used. The piece is inspired by the compelling visionary poem of the same name (which the poet illustrated himself) by the Englishman William Blake (1757-1827), who occupies a unique position in western literature and the visual arts. He was not just a poet and a writer, but he was also a graphic artist, a painter, an illustrator, a spiritualist, a religious visionary, and a mystic philosopher. For the performance of this work, a professional sound system, including two microphones and a CD player, is needed. The three sound collages are three separate tracks on the enclosed CD and can be played easily at the right moment.The Book of Urizen bears resemblance to Genesis and Exodus, of which the contents form the basis of the Christian, Jewish, and Islamic faith. Blake adhered to the principle that all religions are in fact one, and that deities reside in human beings. In The Book of Urizen this is represented in "The Net of Religion," which is spanned over the earth by Urizen. The sound collages, compiled by Jacob de Haan in the studio, find their origin in Jerusalem, the Holy City, where the afore-mentioned faiths come together.The first two movements, The Vision and The Creation, are available in a separate set.

Based on the shaped note melody Saints Bound for Heaven, Jubilee by James Curnow captures a feeling of joyful celebration through a series of unique and skilfully adapted variations. The opening strains are actually fragments of the first variation and occur before the main tune is introduced by low brass and woodwinds. The second variation features a euphonium solo and builds to a glorious climax with the full ensemble. The final variation is joyful and filled with energy, using flourishes in the woodwinds and fanfares in the brass for a grand conclusion to this marvellous work.Duration: 5:30
