Centennial Prelude (Concert Band - Score and Parts) - Van der Roost, Jan
This short opening music was composed on commission of the symphonic band of Jan Van der Roost's village (= Kontich near Antwerp / Belgium). In 1991, this community band celebrated its 100th anniversary. After composing commissioned pieces from different countries (even from Japan), this was the most 'near' commission he ever received indeed! It is a short but varied piece, featuring all sections of the band. After a short introduction, played by the brass instruments, a crisp rhythm starts and boxes the main theme. After a second theme, played by brass and percussion, a short melodical passage brings some 'rest'. At the end, the fanfare of the introduction reoccurs. Although this "Centennial Prelude" isn't a really demanding piece, it sounds colourful and energetic. It has been recorded on CD by the band of the 'Royal Dutch Airforce' and the 'Desford Colliery Brass band'.Duration: 3:30

Huckleberry Finn Suite (Concert Band - Score and Parts)
American author Mark Twain spent seven years writing Huckleberry Finn - the book Hemingway claimed is the basis for all American fiction. The story of Huck's and Jim's quest for freedom on a raft on the Mississippi provides a panoramic view of Southern society, which Twain saw as beset by greed, violence and coldhearted brutality in the guise of virtue. At the end of the book, Huck definitively abandons the hypocrisy and cant on which he has been raised when he makes the shocking decision to go to hell rather than betray his friend Jim and send him back to slavery. This suite portrays all the adventure of this great romantic novel and will delight performers and audience alike. 13:00

Joy in All Things - Brian Balmages
This exuberant expression of joy begins with a series of brass fanfares punctuated by percussion interludes and woodwind flourishes. Moving between bold multi-meter sections and lighter passages, the opening music propels forward until a reflective center section arrives, featuring solos for onstage and offstage flutes. The end of the work brings back all the intensity of the opening along with expanded fanfares and multi meter passages. Fantastic!

Welcome to the World - Sven Van Calster
This piece was written for two sons of the composer as a welcome to young and innocent lives in to this big world. The concept and instrumentation of the composition allows any young band to play this piece. The optional celesta (keyboard) is a refreshing addition, evoking the sound of an ancient music box, and has a meaningful part as the music box fades out at the end of the piece.
