Battle Hymn 2000 - W. Steffe
The mainly unison, easy chorus parts in BATTLE HYMN 2000 mean you CAN prepare James Hosay's imaginative and inspiring version of "The Battle Hymn of the Republic" for performance, even though opportunities for combined chorus and band rehearsals are hard to find. In fact, the dress rehearsal may be all you need to put on the finishing touches. It makes a spine-tingling finale for a combined choral/band concert (it can also be used as a stand-alone band piece). For a thrilling addition, consider having the chorus surround the audience while the band remains on stage. The surround-sound effect can be magnificent and it gives each member of the chorus a little personal stardom.Don't forget, having one piece at the end of the concert which includes everyone always helps to make sure you maintain a "full house" for all your performing groups.

Grnemeyer! - Herbert Grönemeyer
The German singer and actor Herbert Grnemeyer has remained faithful to his own style since the beginning of his career in the eighties, yet still managed to further develop his craft and himself, all the while remaining successful. His albums sell well, and his concerts, especially in Germany, are frequently sold out. Wolfgang Wssner chose four diverse songs from Grnemeyer's extensive repertoire (Mnner, Mensch, Flugzeuge im Bauch and Mambo), creating a medley that remains exciting to the very end.

It was partly damaged in the bombing raids of the Second World War. The building is known above all for the monumental dome and for the many personalities who are laid to rest - such as Admiral Nelson, Florence Nightingale and Winston Churchill. In Saint Paul's Cathedral, Philip Ceunen gives his own impression from his visit to this iconic building.

Homage - Jan Van der Roost
In the most literal sense: a piece for an occasion. The actual occasion was Jan de Haan's twentieth anniversary as a conductor of the top Dutch brass band, "Soli Deo Gloria" (Leeuwarden). To mark the occasion, the band commissioned the Belgian comopser Jan Van der Roost to create a surprise piece: without knowledge of the person being celebrated, a suitable source of inspiration was sought for. After some thought the chorale-theme from Camille Saint-Sans organ symphony was chosen, a piece with which Jan de Haan has a special bond.Apart from this chorale, Homage is also based on the names of notes taken from 'Jan de Haan' and 'Soli Deo Gloria', resulting in the tonerow: DEGAH. Both elements are combined together and form a grand climax towards the end of the piece when the whole band unites in the Saint Sans' theme.

Avalon - Jan Van der Roost
The magical world of King Arthur, Merlin and Mordred is the setting for Avalon. Unexpected opening figures portray the sudden entrance into another world. A choral-like melody represents the procession of ghosts headed by the mighty magician Merlin. Suddenly, ostinato figures and bi-tonal motifs indicate the attempt of Mordred and his horde to disturb the peace and quiet in the otherwise calm Avalon. Following a powerful statement of King Arthur, we hear a glissando referring back to the opening bars, and... we are back in the normal world. The journey through the underworld has come to an end and the dream is over.

St. James Drive - Harm Evers
A visit to the United Stetes inspired Harm Evers to write this march. It has thus become an "American style" march-a happy "Swing March." The Pithy rhythnical melody and the simple harmony come together in a merry whole. The melodic counterparts in the tenor register, the dynamic contrasts, and the varied instrumentation keep the march exciting from the beginning to the end, both for the listener and the musician.

DRAGON DANCE (Prestige Concert Band Extra Score) - Stubbs, Duncan
Score only. Of all dragon species, the habits of the ice dragon, hidden away in its mountain fastness, are the least known. Spending most of their lives deep below ground in vast caverns they venture abroad very rarely. Fiercely territorial, encounters with others of their kind precipitate conflict, both immediate and violent. Those few people who have witnessed such encounters, and survived them, liken them to a kind of frenetic dance, hence the title of the piece. Heavily armed, intelligent creatures, the contests are highly ritualised. The frantic pace and intensity of the encounters mean they ten to be brief, ending with one, or often both beasts, crashing into the mountain side, causing a huge avalanche htat invariably marks the end of the encounter. Duration: 5:03 Recorded on Polyphonic QPRM153D Wind Borne
