December (Concert Band with Optional Choir - Score and Parts) - Buckley, Robert

December was inspired by the holiday season in Canada. It reflects the sounds, the sights, and the moods of that magical time of year. December starts off joyfully with a playful theme of celebration. This leads into an icy, reverent, winter solstice theme. Then there is a further development of the original joyful theme and a jubilant build to the finish. December can be performed with or without the optional choir part. A wonderful addition to any holiday concert.Duration: 6.00

Te Deum (from Tosca) (Concert Band with opt. Vocal Solo and Choir - Score and Parts) - Puccini, Giacomo - De Meij, Johan

Normally, a church is a place for silence, prayer and meditation. The contrary is true in Giacomo Puccini's opera Tosca, he turns the Roman basilica Sant' Andrea della Valle into a playground for hiding rebels, jealous lovers, sanctimonious fresco painters and invading police officers. Johan de Meij's exciting arrangement of the finale of the first Act from Tosca can be performed instrumental, or with a vocal soloist (Scarpia: Baritone) and choir (SATB). Duration: 5:15

Ich bete an die Macht der Liebe (Concert Band - Score and Parts) - Bortnyansky, Dmitry - Bilkes, Michael

The Ukrainian Dmitri Bortniansky (1751-1825) received lessons at the local singing school in his hometown of Hlukhiv, and soon his extraordinary talent was recognised. He was somewhat of a child prodigy, writing his first opera at a young age. Following his studies Bortniansky was appointed court composer and Kapellmeister of the Imperial Chapel Choir. In the period that followed, he wrote - in addition to a number of operas, instrumental works, and a cycle of songs - more than a hundred religious works for a cappella choir, in which he combined Russian-orthodox and Ukrainian traditions with late 18th century European music. The appealing melody of Ich bete an die Macht der Liebe (Prayer to the Power of Love) became well-known, especially in Germany, in combination with German text by Gerhard Tersteegen. This arrangement by Michael Bilkes reflects the atmosphere of the original work very well.Duration: 3:45

Coro degli Armigeri (Concert Band - Score and Parts) - Verdi, Giuseppe - Cesarini, Franco

A technique much employed by Verdi is to alternate main scenes of a drama with others which allow the listener to relax temporarily. These moments are often entrusted to the choir (as in the case of the well-known Rataplan in La forza del destino). In Trovatore, the soldiers' chorus precedes the scene of the capture of the gypsy woman Azucena by Conte di Luna's men. The soldiers are about to attack the fortress of Castellor in which Manrico (the troubadour) and Leonora, together with many other rebels, have found shelter. The very easy-going choir is in blunt contrast to the following scene in which Ferrando, the loyal squire of Conte di Luna, recognises the old gypsy woman. This recognition marks the beginning of wicked developments for all protagonists in this drama.Duration: 3:30

Der Mond ist Aufgegangen (Concert Band with Optional Choir - Score and Parts) - De Haan, Jacob

The lyrics to Der Mond ist Aufgegangen (The Moon Is Risen) come from Matthias Claudius, one of Germany's best-known poets. The 1779 poem with the original title Abendlied (Evening song) was set to music by Johann Abraham Peter Schulz and has become perhaps the most famous Abendlied in the German-speaking world. Johann de Haan has created a delightful arrangement of this poignant melody. The wind orchestra can optionally be accompanied by a choir (Dutch and German texts are provided).Duration: 3:30

Introitus (SATB Choir with Concert Band - Score and Parts) - De Haan, Jacob

The Latin word "Introitus" means 'entry'. Originally, this was a psalm sung to accompany the entrance of a bishop, priest or celebrant into the church. Later it was incorporated into the mass with alternating sung and spoken text, reflecting the mood of the liturgy. Jacob de Haan's Introitus, in which he has arranged the hymns Puer natus est nobis and Lobt Gott, Ihr Christen alle gleich, is a wonderful introduction to the Christmas season and can be performed with any instrumental combination with mixed choir and organ ad libitum.Duration: 4:00
