A Sousa Celebration (Concert Band - Score and Parts) - Sousa, John Philip - Noble, Paul
A Sousa Celebration is the arranger's collection of excerpts from several of Sousa's interesting marches, creating a patriotic presentation of greater length than the typical march. This selection includes a variety of content, offering a showpiece to several sections of the band: Hail to the Spirit of Liberty, composed for the Paris Exposition of 1900, for the unveiling of the Lafayette Monument on July 4; Yorktown Centennial (1881), written to commemorate the hundredth anniversary of the last important battle of the Revolutionary War: the surrender at Yorktown; Mother Hubbard March (1885), based on nursery rhymes; "Three Blind Mice," "Thus the Farmer Sows His Seed," "Old Mother Hubbard," "Hey Diddle Diddle," "Little Redbird in the Tree," "London Bridge is Falling Down," "Scotland the Brave," and "The Minstrel Boy." The celebration concludes with excerpts from Sousa's most celebrated march, The Stars and Stripes Forever.

Hymns from the Rig Veda (Windependence Concert Band - Score and Parts) - Holst, Gustav - Mitchell, Jon
A century ago, James Causley Windram, then band director of the 5th Northumberland Fusiliers (and later the Coldstream Guards) asked Gustav Holst if he would transcribe some of the composer's Hymns from the Rig Veda for military band. Always a band advocate, Holst readily agreed. In this thoroughly characteristic suite, two of Windram's settings (Hymn of the Travellers and Battle Hymn) have been edited for modern instrumentation, while a third (Hymn to Manas) has been arranged by Jon Ceander Mitchell from Holst's original choral setting.

Battles (Concert Band - Score and Parts) - Dobson, Simon
Battles was written for the restoration of the epic 1927 silent film The Battles of Coronel and Falkland Islands, and was commissioned by the British Film Institute (BFI) in 2013. The work presents eight contrasting scenes as a continuous sequence: War, Introduction of Admiral von Spee, German Banquet, Building Steam/Preparing, Islanders, Call to Arms, Great Battle at Sea and Victory. The original score was written for a small chamber orchestra, symphonic brass and a substantial batterie of tuned and untuned percussion. Battles has been edited for symphonic wind orchestra with percussion and harp. Composer Simon Dobson says of his colourful score, "I wanted to keep things simple and clear, so there is a British theme, a fanfare march idea, often heard on trumpet, and a German naval theme, which is a more angular motif." The Way to Heaven (Concert Band - Score and Parts) - Sparke, Philip
The Way to Heaven (Droga do Nieba) was commissioned by the Royal Air Force Music Services. 2015 was the 75th anniversary of the Battle of Britain, which took place between July and October 1940, when the courageous fighter pilots of the Royal Air Force thwarted Hitler's ambitions to launch an invasion on the UK. The Way to Heaven opens with fluttering woodwind figures and brass fanfares, which build to a climax before a change of key introduces a short quotation for the Polish National Anthem - Mazurek Dbrowskiego. This fades and you can hear the signal to scramble and the throaty sounds of the squadron's Merlin engines bursting into life before they line up to take off. This leads to the main thematic material of the work, which depicts the heaven-bound flight of 303 Squadron as it climbs to intercept the incoming Messerschmitt 109s. A brief allusion to the Polish national anthem brings the piece to a triumphant close.Duration: 4.30
