A Sousa Celebration (Concert Band - Score and Parts) - Sousa, John Philip - Noble, Paul
A Sousa Celebration is the arranger's collection of excerpts from several of Sousa's interesting marches, creating a patriotic presentation of greater length than the typical march. This selection includes a variety of content, offering a showpiece to several sections of the band: Hail to the Spirit of Liberty, composed for the Paris Exposition of 1900, for the unveiling of the Lafayette Monument on July 4; Yorktown Centennial (1881), written to commemorate the hundredth anniversary of the last important battle of the Revolutionary War: the surrender at Yorktown; Mother Hubbard March (1885), based on nursery rhymes; "Three Blind Mice," "Thus the Farmer Sows His Seed," "Old Mother Hubbard," "Hey Diddle Diddle," "Little Redbird in the Tree," "London Bridge is Falling Down," "Scotland the Brave," and "The Minstrel Boy." The celebration concludes with excerpts from Sousa's most celebrated march, The Stars and Stripes Forever.

Glorioso (Concert Band - Score and Parts) - Van der Roost, Jan
Glorioso was commissioned by, and is dedicated to, the Siena Wind Orchestra. The work opens after a short aleatoric intro, with an energetic and brassy one tone fanfare. The note F acts as an omnipresent note, and is also used as a bridge into the second, rather static movement. A noble sounding theme leads to an impressive climax, shortly followed by the spectacular and virtuoso finale, which is built on the musical elements that have been heard before. Stylistically, this sparkling finale is clearly influenced by Dmitri Shostakovich, hence the use of the famous signature used by the Russian Master: C, D, E flat, B (or C flat). A glorious finish to a special work that highlights various facets of the modern concert band.Duration: 15.30

Southend Celebration (Concert Band - Score and Parts) - Sparke, Philip
The work opens with a stern fanfare in bare fifths, which leads to a cantabile theme introduced by alto saxophone. This builds to a climax and reintroduces the fanfare, which slowly evolves into the subsequent vivo. A perky tune emerges on flute, saxophone and trumpet, which, after a short bridge passage, leads to a contrasting melody on low clarinets and saxophones. After some development a true 'second subject' appears for the whole band. A recapitulation leads briefly back to the opening fanfare before the vivo returns to close the work in celebratory mood.Duration: 8:30

Stay Cool (Concert Band - Score and Parts) - Gassi, Vince
If cool is what you're looking for, you just found it! A simple, yet effective descending line in the lower voices of the band decides to "hang out" with a very hip melodic "hook" offered by the upper affiliates. Reverse rolls for the bridge, add in some harmony in 4ths, and the result is a level of cool your band and audiences will not soon forget. Everyone has something to say in this partnership in the study of cool.Duration: 3.15

The Cossack (March) (Concert Band - Score and Parts) - Rimmer, William - Brand, Geoffrey
Another great march from William Rimmer, Britain's Lancashire-born "March King," who is reputed to have written more that a hundred marches. A Cossack, as defined in The Oxford Dictionary, is a "member of a people of southeastern Russia, especially as light horse in Russian army." William Rimmer's march opens with a magnificent portrayal of the strength and vigor which that definition implies and there is more character portrayal to come. An insightful Trio provides evidence of a Cossack's more reflective side before a short bridge takes the music back, via a Da Capo, to its opening power and strength. In William Rimmer's skillful hands, "March: The Cossack" is veritably a musical portrait.

Mandalen Landscapes (Concert Band - Score and Parts) - Sparke, Philip
The picturesque town of Mandalen lies amid snow-covered mountains and scenic fjords on the west coast of Norway. Mndalen Landscapes was commissioned by and written for Mndalen Skule og Ungdomskorps (Mandalen School and Youth Band) for a major concert in November 2003 at the instigation of its conductor, John Hudson, a long-time friend of composer Philip Sparke. Sparke set out to capture the beauty of the area in music and the piece opens with an evocation of the crisp, clear air of a Norwegian morning. After this introduction, the main theme is stated on clarinets and saxophones. A central bridge section takes the listener through several moods until the brass reintroduce the main theme under a woodwind descant. Material from the introduction brings the work to a peaceful close.Duration: 6:00
