Chimera (Ki-meer'-uh) (Concert Band - Score and Parts) - Gassi, Vince
Greek mythology is the source of inspiration for this new piece for young band. A chimera is a fire- breathing monster with a lion's head, a goat's body, and a serpent's tail. Fearsome indeed!! But just as dynamic is this musical tale of valour depicting a warrior knight's epic quest to defeat the beast. Spirited harmonies and energetic rhythms abound, contrasting perfectly with a moving lyrical section.Duration: 4.00

Acclamations (Flexible Ensemble - Score and Parts) - Huckeby, Ed
This spirited work by Ed Huckeby features unique rhythmic accompaniment rhythms in the lower parts contrasted with simple, but musically effective upper voice melodic lines. The "moderato'' middle section utilizes subtle syncopation to create a pleasant contemporary character. Ed's medium-easy arrangement for the Build-A-Band Series makes it playable with very small bands and bands with severe instrumentation issues, and insures that it will be a favourite concert and contest selection for years to come for these groups. As usual with this series, optional parts are included for percussion and keyboards.Duration: 4.45

Sixth Symphony (Concert Band - Score and Parts) - Barnes, James
This symphony, commissioned by and dedicated to Roy Holder and his wonderful Lake Braddock High School Band, is both shorter and simpler to play than the composer's other symphonies, but it loses nothing in terms of integrity or profundity. The first movement, "Andante, ma non troppo," casts a brooding mood in the somber key of D minor, the second movement, "Adagio" is lyrical, while the final movement, "Allegro energico," begins powerfully before moving to a dreamy, ghost-like middle section before finally returning to the initial material.
