This exciting, innovative new work from Robert Buckley was commissioned by the Troy University Symphony Band in honour of the 37th annual Southeastern United States Concert Band Clinic in Alabama. Using a recurring two-measure loop, this uniquely constructed piece is built up around various musical building blocks that are constantly evolving and transforming. The music is dramatic and dynamic, with full-blown ensemble passages suddenly dropping to quiet, powerful moments without ever losing the music's continuous drive. If necessary, the concluding fanfare may be omitted.

Energico is the third movement from the composition Out of Earth, a musical exploration of the creation of the myth Ovid's Metamorphoses. This myth depicts humanity's path, and is taken from a golden age of the past. It describes the destruction of the Great Flood, to the re-building of life on earth. Out of Earth was created as a commission for the Aulos Concert Band and was premiered by the band in October 2015. Song of Friendship was commissioned by the Concert Band of Jumonji University, Saitama, Japan and their conductor, Yutaka Nishida. The commission marked the 50th year of Yutaka Nishida's involvement with bands as a player, conductor and radio presenter. The ceremonial Song of Friendship opens with an extended fanfare, largely featuring the brass section. This leads to the main theme, which develops slowly until it is played by the full band. A change of key signals a contrasting central section containing a quiet woodwind chorale, which grows until the return of the triumphant sounding main theme. Elements of the opening fanfare then close the work. Duration: 6.45

Rejoice and sing! was written in celebration of the 95th birthday of Sir David Willcocks. John Rutter writes: I was delighted to be asked by OUP to compose a new carol in his honour. Writing 'Rejoice and sing!' I recalled the many happy Christmas concerts he conducted with the Bach Choir in London's Royal Albert Hall, thinking also of his fondness for quirky rhythms, hence the lopsided 7/8 which runs through much of the music. This arrangement is written for combined Concert Band and Chorus, but may be performed by band alone. It is compatible with the original version except that it is transposed down by one-half step (semi-tone).

Highdays and Holidays was commissioned by the South Berks Concert Band to celebrate its 40th anniversary in 2016. The band rehearses in the village of Mortimer, which has a long and fascinating history dating back to, and beyond, the Bronze Age. Mortimer is famous for The Mortimer Revel, an annual event which was apparently a fairly rumbustious and sometimes violent affair. Highdays and Holidays seeks to capture some of this festive event in the form of an energetic overture, which explores a variety of moods including the somewhat chaotic atmosphere of the Revel. All Bells in Paradise was written for the 2012 Festival of Nine Lessons and Carols held each Christmas Eve at King's College. For this, John Rutter turned to a carol text more or less contemporary with King's Chapel itself, the 15th century Corpus Christi Carol, to which he added his own text. This arrangement is written for combined Concert Band and Chorus, but may be performed by Band alone. Bands will find this arrangement very accessible in its technical demands. Its beauty and simplicity will add to music for the Christmas season.

Magnificat anima mea (My soul doth magnify The Lord) is the first of seven movements comprising John Rutter's setting of the biblical canticle Magnifica, completed in 1990. Rutter was inspired by jubilant celebrations of Mary in Hispanic cultures and conceived the work as a bright Latin-flavoured fiesta. In countries such as Spain, Mexico and Puerto Rico, feast days of the Virgin are joyous opportunities to take to the streets and celebrate with singing, dancing and processions. This arrangement for combined Concert Band and Chorus may also be performed by band alone, and is a faithful representation of the original composition.
