Marcia A Montecelio (Concert Band - Score and Parts) - Naumann, Siegfried

Monticello is the name of a little place northeast of Rome where my wife and I have rented a simple home for more than 20 years. We participated intensively in the cultural life of the community where there was also a little band, the Banda Municipale Cornicolana, which consisted of about 55 wind players, mostly youngsters. One day, the "Il Direttore" came to me and asked if I would like to write a march for them, which I naturally did. It became the Marcia a Montecelio. After 14 rehearsals, with everyone tired, perspiring and red in the face, we were forced to give up. The march was too difficult for them. I then wrote another, easier march for them to perform at the forthcoming feast of San Michaeli. The Montecelio march was composed on pure inspiration in just two days. It is written in the Italian style - with a pinch of Sousa.

Cedar Valley March (Concert Band - Score and Parts) - Hodges, Steve

This spirited march begins with a dynamic "echo" introduction that leads to the memorable main theme. All sections share the spotlight before transitioning into the contrasting B section with a minor, more lyrical theme. After an understated presentation, this section builds to a big cymbal crash that leads to a repeat of the A section. The coda features a variation of the echo introduction before ending in a dynamic fashion. The vitality of this work makes Cedar Valley March an ideal concert opener that both the band and audience will enjoy. Duration: 3.30

The Untitled March (Concert Band - Score and Parts) - Sousa, John Philip - Brion & Schissel

NEVER BEFORE PUBLISHED. Written shortly before his death, Sousa's "The Untitled March" was never performed during his lifetime because a page of the original was misplaced until it was located by Sousa researcher Loras Schissel in 1989. Keith Brion & Loras Schissel have restored the missing music and then edited the march to conform to the standard performance practices of that time using Sousa's original copy. Besides being an exceptional march in the Sousa tradition, this edition includes extensive performance notes and the full and fascinating story behind this historic piece. This publication is an official, authorized Sousa edition of John Philip Sousa, Inc., the family corporation.Duration: 3.40

Turkish March (Concert Band - Score and Parts) - Beethoven, Ludwig van - Kobayashi, Mika

The Turkish March (Marcia alla turca) is a well-known classical march theme by Ludwig van Beethoven. It was written in the Turkish style, popular in music at the time. The theme was first used in Beethoven's Six Variations on an Original Theme, Op.76, of 1809. In 1811, Beethoven wrote an overture and incidental music to a play by August von Kotzebue called The Ruins of Athens (Op.113), which premiered in Pest in 1812. The Turkish March appears as movement four of the incidental music.Duration: 3.30

Epic March (Concert Band - Score and Parts) - Ireland, John - Brand, Geoffrey

This march falls squarely in the tradition started by Elgars Pomp and Circumstance set through Waltons Crown Imperial and is a fitting companion to these all. Written in 1942 to a commission by the BBC the march was first performance in its original version in the Proms Concert Series at the Royal albert Hall. FANFARE TO PLANET EARTH and MILLENNIUM MARCH (Prestige Concert Band - Score and Parts) - Fanshawe, David - Sparke, Philip

These two works may be performed individually or, as published, together. Fanfare to Planet Earth - the Fanfare opens dramatically with heraldic trumpets answered by sforzando strikes on deep percussion. The Fanfare embraces the splendour and grandeur of our planet Earth, molto grandioso, and culminates in a chordal cluster - a blaze of brass and percussion in G major, describing feelings of optimism at the start of the 21st century. Performance time 1'50". Millennium March - constructed along classical lines, the theme of Millennium March is catchy and not without humour. Its recurring motif on trumpets, con brio, develops the opening bars of the Fanfare. The March gathers momentum through several dramatic key-changes and ends with a surprise flourish of chromaticism, marked Tempo Apocalyptic. Cannons and fireworks are optional! Performance time 4'10'
