Knights of the Royal Realm (Concert Band - Score and Parts) - Smith, Robert W.

With a British flair and grandiose-style, this original march incorporates two distinct themes. Robert W. Four Original Warm-Ups for Band (Concert Band - Score and Parts) - Appermont, Bert

From his experience as a conductor and adjudicator, Bert Appermont knows that bands often experience the same problems: lack of sound control, intonation difficulties, uncontrolled articulation and insufficient phrasing. Practising these aspects is very demanding and there is little material available that is also enjoyable to play. Four Original Warm-Ups consists of four fun warm-up pieces. Each piece focuses on one of the problems without the music being dull. The four pieces work equally well when played together or as individual items either at rehearsals or in a concert. Codon (Concert Band - Score and Parts) - Houben, Kevin

Codon is a term used in the field of molecular genetics to describe the interaction between the three elements that are important for both the creation and the preservation of life. Kevin Houben uses this term as a metaphor for the interaction between the conductor, the musicians and the committee of a concert band. They all have the same goal, to preserve the life of the band. This work consists of three movements, symbolising birth, life and death - either of a human being or a band. From the foundation of a band over good and bad times up to the optimistic future, this work will appeal to the soul of every band member in the world!Duration: 17:00

Bahn Frei (Concert Band - Score and Parts) - Strauss, Eduard - Van der Beek, Wil

Eduard Strauss, the third son of Johann Strauss the Elder, was born on March 15, 1835, in Vienna. Originally, Eduard looked for employment in the diplomatic service, but he also studied music theory. He became a harpist in the Strauss orchestra in 1855. In 1862, he joined his two famous brothers Johann Jr. and Josef as a conductor of the family orchestra. Like that of his two brothers, his musical output was prolific: he wrote over 320 separate dances and marches. Apart from the exuberant Bahn Frei (Track Clear), which he wrote in 1869, and a handful of other fast polkas (he excelled in this particular dance form), his music is not as well known as that of his brothers.Duration: 3:00

Mandalen Landscapes (Concert Band - Score and Parts) - Sparke, Philip

The picturesque town of Mandalen lies amid snow-covered mountains and scenic fjords on the west coast of Norway. Mndalen Landscapes was commissioned by and written for Mndalen Skule og Ungdomskorps (Mandalen School and Youth Band) for a major concert in November 2003 at the instigation of its conductor, John Hudson, a long-time friend of composer Philip Sparke. Sparke set out to capture the beauty of the area in music and the piece opens with an evocation of the crisp, clear air of a Norwegian morning. After this introduction, the main theme is stated on clarinets and saxophones. A central bridge section takes the listener through several moods until the brass reintroduce the main theme under a woodwind descant. Material from the introduction brings the work to a peaceful close.Duration: 6:00

Masquerade (Concert Band - Score and Parts) - Sparke, Philip

Masquerade was commissioned by Stadtmusik Willisau from Switzerland (Reto Gdel, conductor) to celebrate their 175th anniversary in 2003 and first performed by them in November that year.1. Overture: The first movement opens with a fanfare-like figure, featuring the brass, before the main them is introduced over staccato chords. After a short, syncopated interlude a legato theme is introduced in the tenor register and material is developed until the music slows temporarily. The opening theme returns and the 'tenor' tune is taken up by the whole band until the opening fanfare returns to close the movement.2. Elegy: The slow movement opens intensely with a bare two-part theme, which leads to a passionate chorale-style melody. A second theme is introduced and leads to a climax, a return of the chorale theme and a pianissimo repeat which again leads to a full-band climax. The two-part theme returns quietly to create a peaceful close.3 Interlude: A short movement which changes the mood to introduce...4 Finale: Three violent chords preface a lively syncopated opening theme. The trumpets introduce a second idea, which is treated fugally, and this in turn leads to the main melodic idea of the movement, over staccato chords. A contrasting subject is then introduced in the middle of the band, followed by echoes of the first movement fanfare. The opening theme returns and material is revisited until the opening fanfare returns in full to end the work triumphantly.Duration: 15:30
