I'm a Pirate - David M. Martin
Shiver me timbers, matey! What a terrific training work for young band and wouldn't you, the conductor, cut a swashbuckling figure in a tri-cornered hat and eye patch with a parrot on your shoulder? (A wooden leg would be optional.)

Cousins - Herbert L. Clarke / arr. David Marlatt
Clarke wrote Cousins, a cornet and trombone duet with band accompaniment in 1904 for himself as the cornet soloist and Leo Zimmerman as the trombone soloist. To create a clean new edition, dynamics and articulations were made more consistent in the parts. Other items were changed to reflect the bands of today including F Horn parts rather than E-flat and the percussion parts have been reorganized. This is the first time this work has been available with a full conductor score rather than a piano reduction.

Rhythm of the Nations
This is a fun and rhythmic South African folk song. The arrangement could be performed with or without choir, or it could involve members of the band singing. The optional repeats can be used to shorten, extend or add new textures as the conductor sees fit. Sections could also be repeated as many times as desired to allow for extensive hand drumming by the percussion section, members of the band or even selected members of the audience! The choir part is very straightforward and could be learned and memorized quickly.

Unconquered Soul - Bryce Newton
A beautiful memorial to a beloved teacher and friend, Unconquered Soul sounds musically demanding. However, it is actually very accessible for developing musicians. Flowing seamlessly from the lyrical choral section into an uplifting up-tempo section, it provides an excellent tool for training players to watch the conductor for tempo. The expert voicing will make your young band sound full and lush, even with limited instrumentation. An excellent middle selection for your assessment performance.Original Item#: RWS-2331-00

Day Dreams - Dana Wilson
This work was commissioned in honor of the 75th birthday of the wonderful conductor Frank Battisti. It is based entirely on the musical pitches extracted from his name (FFrAAnk BABAttisti), forming the musical motive F A B A. In order to recognize the arc of his life and career, Day Dreams traces a metaphorical day. The movement titles all come from Thoreau's ---a place very close to where Frank spent a good part of his life. The work begins with a dramatic sunrise. The second movement represents morning (or youth), and juxtaposes two extremely contrasting and seemingly irreconcilable types of material, typical of that stage of life. The third movement explores the afternoon (adulthood), a period of sophisticated balancing of life's many forces. The final movement is a sunset, with each individual player saying goodbye.
