Ye Olde Dance Musicke (Concert Band - Score and Parts) - Fraser, Bruce

This piece reflects the style of Elizabethan dance music. The opening tempo should be quite steady, though played with energy. Good balance is required to achieve the contrasts. The change of tempo should be easily achieved, again taking care with the balance, dynamics and accents to produce an energetic performance.Titles in the Prelude Series are specifically scored for bands with few, if any, bass instruments but will sound well on larger ensembles. The bass line is playable by any combination of bass clarinet, bassoon, baritone saxophone, trombone, euphonium or tuba; in the event that none of these is available, the part for trombone/euphonium (B flat TC) can be played by tenor saxophone. The tuned percussion part is entirely optional and can be played by any available instrument(s). Each piece also includes a preliminary exercise. This is always in the same key as the accompanying piece and consists of a scale and chord progression that can be used for improving ensemble, balance, intonation and instrumental facility by changing tempo, articulation and dynamics.Duration: 1:45

Barrier Reef (Concert Band - Score and Parts) - Higgins, John

This spirited overture from John Higgins presents a wealth of musicality at an easy level. Written in traditional A-B-A overture format, the powerful opening theme is played first by the trumpets then later developed by the full band. A lyrical slow section featuring the woodwinds contrasts nicely before returning to the exciting fast section.

Missa Tornacum (Choir with Concert Band - Score and Parts) - Waignein, Andre

Felicien Doyen, the President of the Tornacum Royal Choir Circle of Tournai (Belgium) and a close friend of the composer commissioned this Mass. Missa Tornacum was originally composed for mixed choir and organ, gave a memorable performance of the piece in the Chartres Cathedral in France.Although it does not include the Credo, the work is composed according to the traditional structure of a Mass in five parts : Kyrie, Gloria, Sanctus, Agnus Dei, and Ite missa est. En the first two parts, a dialogue is created between the choir and the band. It is followed by the Sanctus cycle ("Sanctus" - "Hosanna" - "Benedictus"), which is remarkable for the contrasts between the tone colours characterising each of its three parts. The fourth part, Agnus Dei, takes on a tone of serene intimacy. A free counterpoint draws this section to a close by fading into an almost imperceptible quietness. Ite missa est begins with a series of imitations, which develop into a majestic and cheerful passage marking the end of the Mass. Choir parts are available separately.Duration: 17:00

Convergence (Concert Band - Score and Parts) - Clark, Larry

La Cittadella (Concert Band - Score and Parts) - Vlak, Kees

In La Cittadella, Kees Vlak reflects the stark contrasts in the Italian mountain village Assisi. On the one hand there is the bustle of the hundreds of thousands visitors who have come to admire the beautiful San Francesco Basilica. On the otherhand within the city walls there is La Cittadella, a complex of buildings where severely handicapped people are taken care of by sisters. The dissonant main theme in the solo trumpet depicts the isolation of these people. Still, the loving care of the sisters provides some light in the darkness. This beautiful piece will bring a sense of spiritual love to any concert.Duration: 8.30

Grand March (Concert Band - Score and Parts) - Konagaya, Soichi

Grand March was composed in 1995 for the All Shizuoka Youth Band of Japan. The piece opens with a majestic fanfare. A superb-sounding march, with a commanding character, follows. The talent of this Japanese composer reveals itself in the distinctly lyrical character of the trio section, which contrasts wonderfully with the first lyrical themes of the score.Duration: 5:15
