    Eternal Hope

A dramatic ballad with deep and rich sonorities, Eternal Hope was written simply as a prayer for peace. Eureka!

The California Gold Rush began on January 24, 1848, when gold was discovered by James W. Marshall at Sutter's Mill, in Coloma, California. Using unique scoring techniques and multiple tambourines as "pans," "Eureka" is David Shaffer's musical depiction of the first miners attempts at panning gold from the American River and their perilous trip by horseback to San Francisco to stake their claim. Breathtaking musical excitement, simple but clever staging of the "panners" combined with the historical importance of that era will make this composition a must for your concert repertoire. Appropriate for festival, contest, and concert programs, this composition will make a rousing closer to any program.

    Fanfare and Furiosity

Not hard, but very impressive, this David Shaffer original is perfect concert or contest material for mid-level bands. It starts with a stately fanfare introduction which leads directly into the "furious" section. This section features a fast tempo where several playable yet independent melody lines are intertwined to create a very busy yet pleasing musical landscape. An adagio section follows before a reprise of the "furious" section leads to a big finish. A rewarding work that is a welcome addition to any performance!

FANFARE TO PLANET EARTH and MILLENNIUM MARCH (Prestige Concert Band - Score and Parts) - Fanshawe, David - Sparke, Philip

These two works may be performed individually or, as published, together. Fanfare to Planet Earth - the Fanfare opens dramatically with heraldic trumpets answered by sforzando strikes on deep percussion. The Fanfare embraces the splendour and grandeur of our planet Earth, molto grandioso, and culminates in a chordal cluster - a blaze of brass and percussion in G major, describing feelings of optimism at the start of the 21st century. Performance time 1'50". Millennium March - constructed along classical lines, the theme of Millennium March is catchy and not without humour. Its recurring motif on trumpets, con brio, develops the opening bars of the Fanfare. The March gathers momentum through several dramatic key-changes and ends with a surprise flourish of chromaticism, marked Tempo Apocalyptic. Cannons and fireworks are optional! Performance time 4'10'

    Festive Flourish

Based upon a simple but lush harmonic chorale, the introduction quickly builds into a dramatic brass driven fanfare. The rhythmic "flourish" is introduced in the saxophones and moves between the choirs of instruments throughout the piece. Effective rhythmic writing compliments the flowing melodies building to a dramatic and exciting finale that is a signature of David Shaffer's festival music. An exceptional choice for contest or festival.

FIRE AND FURY (Band Music Press) - Shaffer, David

As the title implies, here is an exciting and powerful composition for very young players. Written in minor and using a single tempo throughout, this piece provides nice feature spots for your horns/saxes, as well as trumpets. The clarinet parts are all written below the break and these players will enjoy the menacing-sounding trills.
