This four-movement piece was designed as a double quartet and, as the title implies, is like a little symphony. The varied sound is the result of harmonics, glissandos, pizzicatos, fingerboard and instrument body tapping, solo and ensemble playing. The musical palette ranges from lyrical to jazz, from pathos to absurdity. 'Sinfonia piccola' was premiered by students of the Wrzburg Music Academy at the First International Double Bass Competition and Workshop in 1978 on the Isle of Man. * This work is part of the "Hummel Bass Ensemble Project".

Originally composed for solo organ, Hailstork's fanfare is a 3-minute explosion of joyous sound inspired by the Baroque-era tradition of Chorale Preludes. As in Bach's organ preludes, the familiar hymn's phrases broadly emerge from ornate counterpoint, here in the form of brass fanfares. The result is exhilarating! Also scored by Hailstork for chamber ensemble and for orchestra, FANFARE ON AMAZING GRACE was transcribed for concert band in January 2021 by MGySgt Don Patterson, staff arranger for "The President's Own" United States Military Band, for that ensemble's worldwide broadcast performance at the 2021 Presidential Inauguration.

The Music Factory - Jan de Haan
The Music Factory was written to introduce beginner players to ensemble playing as early as possible. Thanks to the low grade of difficulty of this piece this it is possible to play in a 'real band' after only a few lessons. Because of the four-part instrumentation, The Music Factory is suitable for smaller strengths, taking into account that it is important to divide parts evenly among the players. A Little Irish Suite is an original work composed specifically for the Compact Band Series. This series offers smaller ensembles the opportunity to perform original, high-quality works. A Little Irish Suite consists of three movements, all based on Irish folk tunes. Clear structure and crisp harmonies complemented by plain, comprehensible melodies, are characteristic of this piece. It offers conductors the opportunity to work on tone, balance, phrasing as well as on technique with their ensemble. As with all works in the Compact Band Series, A Little Irish Suite features optional parts for instruments that are played less frequently. Conductors can pickand choose the parts needed to best fit the music and the musicians available, to determine the best possible instrumentation for their own ensemble. The duration of six minutes and the large variety and contrast of material played in A Little Irish Suite also make it an ideal selection for competitions or festivals.

Summer Dances - Adam Gorb
'Summer Dances' is a joyful work in three short movements celebrating my favourite season where people are happiest outdoors. Each movement is a celebration the first movement 'Summer Day' celebrates the open air, with a bold and arrogant melody in 10/8 time, whose rhythm dominates the movement. The next movement 'Summer Night' could be described as a 'Beach Habanera' led by a sensuous trumpet melody. The movement ends with an ambiguous harmonic build-up, which is resolved at the start of the finale 'Summer Party' with a folk like theme that is passed round the ensemble, building up, (with suggestions of the first movement theme) to a riotous and festive ending. Summer Dances was commissioned by HAFABRA Music, Louis Martinus in collaboration with Biblioservice Gelderland/Music department MUI, Arhnhem, the Netherlands. Regarding interpretation suggestions: Movement 1) Lively but not too fast very much a piece for the full ensemble, up until the final six bars when things become more subtle and intimate maybe sunset.... Movement 2) Very laid back and sexy. The movement should be thought of as a wonderfully promising 'first date' or 'wedding night', with great possibilities with the unresolved chord at the end of the movement.... Movement 3) As fast as is comfortably possible. The start should be delicate and chamber music like, but increase in general excitement, particularly from figure 31. Something should be saved up for a true fortissimo at 34.
