A Joyful Noel - Wind Band (Andrew Wainwright)
Based on "Joy to the World" and 'The First Noel," this spectacular work opens with a majestic brass fanfare, before breaking in a Celtic-style dance which builds to a dramatic conclusion. Originally commissioned by the Elgin Symphony Orchestra to open their "Magical Holidays" concert series in 2017, this work is now available for wind band. Before entering the International Training College in 1914 to become a Salvation Army officer he developed as a musician through the playing of the cornet and euphonium of the Corps band. In 1926 he was transferred to the Music Editorial Department and also became a member of the International Staff Band. During a period of 9 years he was the Bandmaster of the Rosehill Band with whom he made many recordings and broadcasts. Later he directed a number of other significant Salvation Army bands and also served time abroad in Czechoslovakia.Programme NoteMarch Rosehill was composed by the conductor of the Rosehill band, a one Colonel Albert Jakeway and was named after the premises that were occupied by the Salvation Armys Assurance Society when they were evacuated during the World War 2. It is a majestic march that will find good use in a performance or marching band.

Camelia City March

Fair Field Festival - Philip Sparke
Fair Field Festival opens with a brass fanfare under florid woodwind figuration. A noble chorale leads to a lively allegro vivo, which centres around a majestic horn and euphonium melody under chattering woodwinds. A second theme is first stated by trumpets and this leads to a central legato theme on horns and saxes, repeated by the trumpets. Tempo di Marcia from Symphony No. 1 - Einar Englund
Einar Englund (1916-1999) was a major Finnish composer of symphonies, concertos and film music. His first symphony (1946) bears the title "War Symphony", not given by the composer. He preferred to think think of it rather as a euphoric shout of joy at living to survive the hells of war. The first movement Tempo di marcia depicts seemingly never-ending marching through Karelia during the Soviet-Finnish war. Influences from Sibelius and Shostakovich are present.American conductor Robert J. Ambrose's arrangement of Englund's Tempo di Marcia is scored for wind band. The duration is 9 minutes. Omaggio - Philip Sparke
Omaggio was commissioned by Steven Mead in celebration of his 60th birthday and in memory of his father, Rex. He gave the premiere of the brass band version in Rome in March 2022, accompanied by the Italian Brass Band conducted by Filippo Cangiamilla. The concert band premiere took place on 6th July that year as part of the 2022 Spanish International Tuba Euphonium Conference, accompanied by the Banda municipal de msica de Mlaga. The concerto is set in 3 continuous movements, which are united by a recurring syncopated interval of a fifth. The first movement, FANTASIA, opens with this motive accompanying an extended monologue for the soloist. This is followed by a lengthy bridge passage by the band (piano), which is eventually joined by the soloist, who guides the music back to the opening soliloquy, leading to an energetic central section. This develops until the opening material again returns to introduce the second movement, BALLAD, which revolves around an expressive melody for the soloist, interspersed by accompanied cadenzas. The third movement, THE KING TRIUMPHANT, pays homage to Steven's late father, Rex, and its title alludes both to Rex's name ('Rex' being Latin for 'king') as well as his love of Eric Ball's Salvationist masterpiece, The Kingdom Triumphant. The finale is an energetic tour-de-force featuring an acrobatic 6/8 melody, which is interrupted twice by the magnificent hymn tune, Helmsley, which Ball uses so effectively in The Kingdom Triumphant. A galloping coda brings the work to a close.

Chasing Light - Harrie Janssen
Chasing Light is a one-part composition in 3 movements. The work opens with a slow introduction, dark in atmosphere, in which the main thematic ingredients are exhibited. This is followed by a fast movement, Chasing Light, in which previously heard thematic material is incorporated. Characteristic of this middle movement is the driving motoric movement that galvanises the aforementioned hunt. An extended Euphonium solo bridges the gap to the final movement. Here ethereal sounds dominate. Harp and Mallets dominate the soundscape, symbolising the light that has finally been achieved.The title Chasing Light can be seen as a metaphor for striving to solve major problems facing the world today, such as the Corona pandemic and the climate problem, among others.Chasing Light was composed on behalf of Stadsfanfaren Izegem, conducted by Hans Demeurisse for the World Music Contest 2022 in Kerkrade.

Finale from The New World Symphony - Antonin Dvorak
This arrangement was written for Norwegian School Band Madlamark Skolekorps to their participation at the Norwegian Championships 2023.The arrangement will work excellent also for a wind ensemble (one player to each part), but the clarinet parts should always be doubled.Euphonium II is optional, but it's recommended to use also this when there are two players or more on this instrument. Concerning percussion, timpani is the most important part, but it's recommended to also cover cymbals and mallet percussion.The articulation and dynamics are kept as close as possible to the original version by Dvorak. However, some changes has been made to make it more suitable for a wind instrumentation. The timpani part is identical to the original version except for some places when the trumpet signals are doubled in the timpani part.Staccato notation should not be played short here, but rather separated. At faster passages, the music should be played endurant or legato if possible.This arrangement is a good opportunity to perform music of highest quality where musicality, phrasing, balance and intonation are very important, and, where each musician and part are deeply involved in the music making.
