SOUND BARRIER Rhapsody (Novello Symphonic Band) Extra Score - Arnold, Malcolm
Extra Score only. From Malcolm Arnold's first film score for the director, David Lean, written for the movie, The Sound Barrier which was the story of jet planes and their attempts to fly faster than sound. This is the music of the wide-open spaces of the sky; of the ecstasy of flying; of the sense of loss and waste when accidents happen; and finally of man's aspirations and elation at subduing yet another particle of the universe. SPECTRUM (Prestige Concert Band Extra Score) - Vinter, Gilbert - Newton, Rodney
Extra Score. SPECTRUM. This work caused much consternation when it was used as the brass band test piece at the 1969 British Open Competition. The score is an uncompromising one and as colourful as its title suggests. The various episodes of the work are each named after a colour from the spectrum - Red, Orange, Yellow, Green, Blue, Indigo and Purple (changed from Violet when Vinter became conscious of his failing health). It is a piece of violent mood swings challenging all sections of the band. Many consider this to be the finest of Vinter's small output for band. Duration: 12:40 Recorded on Polyphonic QPRM151D Time Lines (Great British Music for Wind Band Vol.12)

SUITE OF ENGLISH FOLKDANCES (Symphonic WB Extra Score) - Tomlinson, Ernest
Extra score only. In 1951 Ernest Tomlinson, at the invitation of his sister Freda, attended a Festival of Dance and Song presented by the English Folk Dance and Song Society. The Suite, which is dedicated to his sister, is in six movements, all the tunes being selected from the first edition of John Playford's The English Dancing Master. Includes: Jenny Pluck Pears; Ten Pound Lass; Dick's Maggot; Nonesuch; Hunt the Squirrel; Woodicock. Duration: 12 mins.

SUN PAINTS RAINBOWS ON THE VAST WAVES (Symphonic WB) Extra Score - Bedford, David
Extra score only. This work is an evocative description of a jotting in Coleridge's notebook during the period when he was working on The Rime of the Ancient Mariner '...The Sea was then very much tossed, and the Wind carrying off the Tops of the Waves made a kind of Rain, in which the Rays of the Sun painted the Colours of a Rainbow'.
