The King Across The Water (Concert Band - Score and Parts) - Fraser, Bruce
Explosive! Cast in three major sections, King Across the Water treats theTraditional Scottish folk-song "Johnnie Cope" as a fanfare ("Battle"), a lyrical song ("Lament"), and a reel ("Dancing"). Many of the woodwind players will have the opportunity to serve as percussionists during the "Battle." Both audience and ensemble will enjoy this exciting presentation of the tale of Sir John Cope.

Variations on a Nautical Hymn (Concert Band - Score and Parts) - Williams, Mark
Based on the Naval Hymn, "Eternal Father, Strong to Save," this work opens with an aggressive fanfare which leads to the hymn, stated in a chorale fashion. The first variant is Allegro and features interplay between rhythmic figures in the percussion section with mirrored polychords in the woodwinds. The second variant is reminiscent of the music of Erik Satie and features a beautiful pairing of flute and oboe solos supported by strong countermelodies played by the horns. A third variant in 6/8 provides another interesting point of view before the work closes in Maestoso fashion. Another Mark Williams masterpiece! Duration: 6.15

Echoes of the Civil War (Concert Band - Score and Parts) - Williams, Mark
This nostalgic arrangement of Civil War tunes begins with a peaceful woodwind statement of the 'Battle Cry of Freedom.' A trumpet and drum fanfare brings contrast and heralds the arrival of an upbeat section where 'Dixie,' played by the woodwinds, is superimposed over the opening tune in the brass. A stirring piece, filled with bittersweet pride and respect for an important period in American history. Duration: 3.30

Centennial Prelude (Concert Band - Score and Parts) - Van der Roost, Jan
This short opening music was composed on commission of the symphonic band of Jan Van der Roost's village (= Kontich near Antwerp / Belgium). In 1991, this community band celebrated its 100th anniversary. After composing commissioned pieces from different countries (even from Japan), this was the most 'near' commission he ever received indeed! It is a short but varied piece, featuring all sections of the band. After a short introduction, played by the brass instruments, a crisp rhythm starts and boxes the main theme. After a second theme, played by brass and percussion, a short melodical passage brings some 'rest'. At the end, the fanfare of the introduction reoccurs. Although this "Centennial Prelude" isn't a really demanding piece, it sounds colourful and energetic. It has been recorded on CD by the band of the 'Royal Dutch Airforce' and the 'Desford Colliery Brass band'.Duration: 3:30
