Good King Wenceslas (Concert Band with Optional Choir - Score and Parts) - Noble & Willcocks

Good King Wenceslas is a Christmas carol that tells a story of a Bohemian king going on a journey and braving harsh winter weather to give alms to a poor peasant on the Feast of Stephen (December 26, the Second Day of Christmas). During the journey, his page is about to give up the struggle against the cold weather, but is enabled to continue by following the king's footprints, step for step, through the deep snow. The legend is based on the life of the historical Saint Wenceslaus I, Duke of Bohemia or Svat Vclav in Czech (907-935). The name Wenceslas is a Latinised version of the old Czech language Venceslav. In 1853, English hymnwriter John Mason Neale wrote the Wenceslas lyrics, in collaboration with his music editor Thomas Helmore, and the carol first appeared in Carols for Christmas-Tide, 1853. Neale's lyrics were set to the melody of a 13th-century spring carol Tempus adest floridum (The time is near for flowering) first published in the 1582 Finnish song collection Piae Cantiones. This arrangement represents one in the Series of Band Arrangements compatible with David Willcocks' Carols for Choirs.

Prologo e Fantasia (Concert Band - Score and Parts) - Walton, William - Noble, Paul

William Walton's last 'original' work of note was the Prologo e Fantasia in 1981-2, commissioned by Mstislav Rostropovitch and the National Symphony Orchestra in Washington D.C. It was first performed in London by Rostropovitch and the National Symphony Orchestra. The work consists of three sections. The first movement forms the Prologo, which is slightly reminiscent of the French Overture. The Fantasia opens briskly with characteristic Waltonian energy, and leads, after a climax, into the thematically connected final section Fuga finta (or 'make-believe fugue'). Note to conductors: orchestra performances of this work vary significantly, from a total length of just under five minutes in one performance to over six minutes and forty seconds in another. The audio presented with this arrangement is somewhat in the middle of the timings. So the metronomic markings may not necessarily be taken literally.

Sussex Carol (Concert Band with Optional Choir - Score and Parts) - Noble & Willcocks

The Sussex Carol is a Christmas carol popular in Britain, sometimes referred to by its first line On Christmas night all Christians sing. Its words were first published by Luke Wadding, a 17th-century Irish bishop, in a work called Small Garland of Pious and Godly Songs (1684). It is unclear whether Wadding wrote the song or was recording an earlier composition. Both the text and the tune to which it is now sung were discovered and written down by Cecil Sharp in Buckland, Gloucestershire, and Ralph Vaughan Williams, who heard it being sung by a Harriet Verrall of Monk's Gate, near Horsham, Sussex (hence Sussex Carol). The tune to which it is generally sung today is the one Vaughan Williams took down from Mrs. Verrall and published in 1919.

Rock Music (Concert Band - Score and Parts) - Shapiro, Alex

For Concert Wind Band and Pre-Recorded Soundscapes.Alex Shapiro first brought electroacoustic music - paired with using an everyday object as an instrument - to middle school bands with her 2010 piece, PAPER CUT. Now comes ROCK MUSIC, possibly the very first geo-electroacoustic minimalist band piece, largely devoid of melody, and of rhythm. Conceptual and atmospheric, the music features compelling textures from instruments, voices, and rocks that weave a wind band into a piece of sonic fabric stretched across linear time. As the notes slowly crawl, melt, and scrape over a sonic landscape in random, irregular ways, we're connected to the ancient glaciers which carved the world we know, and which we strive to protect. Like PAPER CUT, ROCK MUSIC can be equally appreciated by mature bands and their audiences, as well. To perform ROCK MUSIC, you'll need an audio system capable of playing the prerecorded audio tracks from a laptop computer via a small digital audio interface connected to an audio mixer. Download information is provided in the printed piece.Duration: 4:15

Liberty (Concert Band - Score and Parts) - Galante, Rossano

Comprised of two main themes, Liberty strives to capture the essence of Americana. The first of the two themes is stated by a trumpet duet, then later the full ensemble. The second theme is robust and emotionally dynamic and accompanied by a driving, rhythmic pulse. The arc of the piece returns to the first theme, this time more transparent, and ending on a gentle, quiet note. A rewarding work for winds with plenty of variety and depth. Duration: 5:15
