The TV Detectives brings together five of Nigel Hess's best-known television themes (Dangerfield, Campion, Wycliffe, Maigret and Hetty Wainthropp Investigates), all originally written for small-screen sleuths in whodunits that have been enjoyed by TV audiences worldwide.Dangerfield is a BBC series about a Warwickshire police surgeon, and originally starred Nigel le Vaillant, before Nigel Havers took over the lead role. Campion, also from the BBC, was based on Margery Allingham's stories of a mild-mannered 1920s gentleman detective, played by Peter Davison. Wycliffe was a long-running HTV series set in Cornwall and starred Jack Shepherd as a somewhat dour and low-key DCI - but, of course, he always solved the case! Michael Gambon starred in Granada TV's latest incarnation of the famous French detective Maigret, while Patricia Routledge played the OAP sleuth to perfection in Hetty Wainthropp Investigates, another popular BBC series. Centenary 2019 is a three-movement suite based on a local folksong and was commissioned by Chr. Fanfare De Lofstem, from the Dutch province of Friesland, on the occasion of its 100th anniversary in 2019. 'AwakeningVillage', the first movement, musically describes the waking up and coming to life of the village. 'Bintje Monument' was inspired by a famous sculpture that was placed to honour headmaster Kornelis Lieuwes de Vries (1854-1929) whodeveloped the well-known potato variety called 'bintje'. The finale, 'Journey into the Unknown' refers to the band's memorable 2011 concert trip to the United States of America, in which the composer combines elements of thefolksong and fragments from 'The Star-Spangled Banner'. The piece consists of a wide range of playful and melodic sequences as well as some galvanizing rhythmical passages.

This suite tells the story of John Stewart, the Duke of Albany (the old name for the Kingdom of Scotland) who lived from 1484 to 1536, and of Anne de la Tour, Countess of Auvergne. The first majestic movement is about John Stewart, who leaves for Auvergne in order to marry Anne de la Tour. The second movement begins beautiful and romantic describing the romance between Anne de la Tour and the Duke, followed by sounds of despair and loneliness. The celebratory finale describes the construction of a new chapel and the population dancing and celebrating.
