New Horizons (Romance And Scherzo) (Bb Trumpet/Cornet Solo) (Concert Band - Score and Parts) - Langford, Gordon

The sub-title 'Romance and Scherzo' - aptly describes this work, a real show-piece for the Trumpet or Cornet. The solo line has everything for the live performance: the quiet, thoughtful beginning uses strong melodic material and leads, after a short bridge and with a flourish to the scherzo.

Prelude for an Occasion (Concert Band - Score and Parts) - Gregson, Edward

This curtain raiser sets a lively mood by bursting into a fanfare, followed by a short bouncing figure and a lively clarinet solo. Rhythmic bi-play, trombone glissandi and a light-hearted obbligato, all add to the merriment. The opening fanfare returns in extended form, and a final flourish brings the Prelude to a triumphant ending.

The Typewriter (Concert Band - Score and Parts) - Anderson, Leroy - Werle, Floyd E.

Leroy Anderson's music is always infectious and compelling. This wonderful flourish celebrates the clunky office machinery of yesteryear. You may have to teach a little history to your students so that they actually understand what a manual typewriter sounds like. It's a zany sound but the enthusiasm is unmatchable. Your percussionists will love the challenge. This Floyd Werle arrangement is freshly engraved with a full score and parts!Duration 1:45

Concerto for Trumpet No.1 'Trumpet Town' (Concert Band - Score and Parts)

A rapid flourish in 12/8 time opens composer Otto M. Schwarz' first Concerto for trumpet Trumpet Town, written in October 2009. The metric changes that follow affect the pulse rhythmically and melodically, in exciting and unexpected ways. The solo trumpet's displays of technical prowess and bravura alternate with the film-score-like tutti sections of the brass ensemble. The slow, almost elegiac, central section can be performed on the flugelhorn, while the closing reprise demands that both the soloist and the orchestra give of their best as the piece comes to an exciting, colourful, and uplifting finale. Soloist: Difficulty 5This piece is also available for trumpet and piano. 10:15

FANFARE TO PLANET EARTH and MILLENNIUM MARCH (Prestige Concert Band - Score and Parts) - Fanshawe, David - Sparke, Philip

These two works may be performed individually or, as published, together. Fanfare to Planet Earth - the Fanfare opens dramatically with heraldic trumpets answered by sforzando strikes on deep percussion. The Fanfare embraces the splendour and grandeur of our planet Earth, molto grandioso, and culminates in a chordal cluster - a blaze of brass and percussion in G major, describing feelings of optimism at the start of the 21st century. Performance time 1'50". Millennium March - constructed along classical lines, the theme of Millennium March is catchy and not without humour. Its recurring motif on trumpets, con brio, develops the opening bars of the Fanfare. The March gathers momentum through several dramatic key-changes and ends with a surprise flourish of chromaticism, marked Tempo Apocalyptic. Cannons and fireworks are optional! Performance time 4'10'
