    Rumpelstiltskin!

Based on the German fairy tale made popular by the Brothers Grimm in 1812, this piece is a musical depiction of the short story "Rumpelstiltskin." In addition to the original music in this work, the composer tips his musical hat with excerpts from Grieg's "Morning Mood," Wagner's "Bridal Chorus," and Brahms' "Lullaby." A delightful setting with several style and tempo changes that will capture the imagination of one and all! (2:45)

The Red Baron - Erik Morales

Based on a famous World War I German fighter pilot, this work feeds off of the raw emotion of open-air cockpit combat. A haunting opening effectively uses voices to portray a great red triplane emerging from a misty cloudbank in preparation for battle. As the pace of music intensifies, the plane is ambushed from behind and roaring trombone glissandos help paint a picture of aviation chaos as the planes dive through the air. Absolutely thrilling!

Variations on Was Lebet - Wind Band (Andrew Wainwright)

A magnificent major work based on the German chorale 'Was Lebet' (O worship the Lord in the beauty of holiness). The piece is made up of five contrasting variations. A majestic, fanfare-like section opens the work, leading into a giocoso classical-style variation. The beautiful Variation 2 is reflective and plaintive, while the next variation is somewhat quirky and volatile in nature. There is a French romantic feel to Variation 4, with a playful waltz providing scope for various soloists around the band to display their musicianship. Variation 5 is fugal in nature, with each section of the band being handed the theme at various points. The sense of motion builds gradually to a grandiose presentation of the theme, the first time that it is heard in its full form, bringing the work to a thrilling, majestic conclusion. *Please note audio and video are of the brass band version.
