Great for music camps, contest use or any band room that has non-standard instrumentation. This beautiful hymn has been arranged to feature all the members in a mixed ensemble. This arrangement opens with a short introduction then proceeds through several verses. Each verse is scored differently for interest with the melody wandering throughout the ensemble. (3:30)

A Welcome Voice - Lewis Hartsough / arr. Frank McKinney
Lewis T. Hartsough wrote "I Hear Thy Welcome Voice" in 1872 at a revival meeting in Epworth, Iowa. This lyrical setting explores the rich sonority available to the young concert band. The opening melody is heard in the dark, rich, full sound of the clarinets' chalumeau register and is doubled by the baritone. As the piece slowly unfolds, it offers the hymn in increasingly dramatic fashion up to its glorious resolution and final Amen.

Engelberg Variations - William G. Harbinson
Engelberg Variations was composed for the Hibriten High School Band in Lenoir, North Carolina and is based on the hymn, "When In Our Music God Is Glorified." It opens with a flourish of activity from the brass and percussion. This gives way to the statement of the theme set in a lovely woodwind chorale featuring flutes and oboes. A lyrical trumpet solo takes the band to a soaring tutti statement of the theme which gets interrupted by a percussion-filled staccato variation. Fragments of the theme are then heard in fun variations juxtaposed against the original theme in augmentation. is destined to become a classic!
