In imitation of the huge 'House rage' (at the end of the eighties) John Emerson Blackstone composed 'House of Dance' for youth orchestra. It proved to be a success. House owes its name to the place where this music was 'developed', i.e. an old night club called 'The Warehouse' in Chicago. Many subcultures followed. Whether you like the style or not, one thing is certain: House music (also called Dance music) for many provides the basis for hours of fun on the dance floor.

£69.99Cowboy Suite - Alan Laken
In the tripartite 'Cowboy Suite' Alan Laken takes us to the Wild West, the domain of cowboys, indians, trappers and other fortune hunters. Around 1890 the west coast of America was reached, which in effect meant the end of the Wild West. Its stories, however, survived and have been a source of inspiration for many books, films, and, of course, music. Some characters, such as Jesse James, Billy the Kid, and Buffalo Bill are forever linked to these tales. In the 'Cowboy Suite' we first hear the 'Hoedown'. At the end of an exhausting workday the labourers used to lay down their tools, among others the 'hoes' and spontaneously began to play music on the instruments which they then possessed (guitars, fiddles, and banjos) and to dance. After being jolted on the 'Wagon Trail' we reach the third part, the 'Cowboy Roundup'. In this last part it becomes clear that as a cattle driver it is imperative to stay firmly seated in the saddle. As the cattle are rounded up, i.e. driven together, spectacular things happen.

Scottish Dances is based on three Scottish traditionals: Cock of the North, The Bonnie Bank's O'Loch Lomond and Marie's Wedding. I. Cock of the North's name is used for multiple things or events. For example for a locomotive to a famous, it seems, delicious liqueur, and rallies to snowboard competitions. Furthermore is "Cock O' the North " a nickname of a famous Duke. (The 4th Duke of Gordon). In this composition Cock of the North (a Jig) is a traditional Scottish bagpipe tune, regularly played on tattoos by Pipe Bands. Not infrequently the drummers sing the text. Auntie Mary, had a canary, Up the leg of her trousers While she was sleeping Iwas peeping Up the leg of her trousers. II. " The Bonnie Bank's O'Loch Lomond " is about a sad story that took place during an revolt against the British. In 1745 Bonnie Prince Charlie had to retreat. Two of his men were captured. One was convicted and executed, while the other was released. The spirit of the executed soldier would arrive in Scotland via the 'low road' (underworld) before his companion, who had still a long way to go. You'll take the high road And I'll take the low road And I'll be in Scotland afore ye But me and my true love will never meet again On the Bonnie Bonnie Banks of Loch Lomond III. In a Scottish wedding, after the official ceremonies, there is often danced. This is called a ceilidh. For this we use traditional Scottish music such as "Marie's Wedding '. Mid dance we go back to the church, where a lovely song in honor of the couple sounds. Marie's Wedding has been recorded by Van Morrison (among many others). Step we gaely, on we go, heel for heel and toe for toe Arm and arm and on we go, all for Marie's wedding

This symphonic suite is inspired by Pepe Domingo, a great music enthusiast and lover of life who wanted to commemorate his long and happy marriage to his dear wife, Concha. He commissioned Ferrar Ferran to set to music the great bond of their partnership: the couple will be able to close their eyes and relive through the music their most precious memories one by one.So Nata Per Te is a suite of many contrasts. Its contemporary, modern flavours are entertaining while the colourful variations are exciting and fascinating. Audience members may recall happy memories in their ownlives listening to the delightful, famous tunes that appear throughout the work and, although somewhat different from the originals, they are easily recognisable.Ferrer Ferran dedicated this work to Pepe Domingo and his wife Concha not only for their great enthusiasm and passion for music, but also for their mutual love. So Nata Per Te was premiered on 27 February 2010 at the Auditorio Florida of Paiporta (Spain) by the Banda Primitiva de Paiporta, conducted by the composer.

WILLIAM H. MYDDLETON (1873-1950) was a British composer, author and amateur astronomer who studied the violin with the famous Pablo de Sarasate and who travelled a lot as violin virtuoso. He conducted a theatre orchestra in Sidney, Australia and the Carl Rosa Opera Orchestra in London. He also wrote some music for military band, using the pen name Arnold Safroni; his most famous march being 'Imperial echoes'. He composed a lot of light orchestral music and many works for symphonic band and brassband, such as 'Down South' and The Phantom Brigade. The latter was composed during World War I and was obviously a homage to the efficient British troops in Flanders' Fields...

The musical South Pacific from 1949 is one of the many successful theatre-productions by composer Richard Rodgers (1902 - 1979) which was developed in collaboration with lyricist Oscar Hammerstein. The association of this couple also resulted in famous musicals such as Oklahoma, The King And I, Flower Drum Song and The Sound Of Music. These productions, initially conceived for Broadway were soon made into movie-productions and shown all over the world. This has contributed to a considerable degree to make Rodgers' music of everlasting value.South Pacific is set - as may be gathered from the title - on an island in the Pacific Ocean. It is there that the planter Emil de Becque, who has left France, falls in love with Nellie Forbush, a nurse in the U.S. Navy, statione on the island during the raging World War II.After learning the truth about Emil's obscure past (he has comitted murder in his homecountry and he is the father of two children running loose on the island) Nellie starts to doubt the sincerity of their relationship.In the song This Nearly Was Mine, Emil expresses his misgivings on the outcome of their relationship.

This is a very special work, written as it is for brass quintet (trumpets I and II, horn, trombone, bass-tuba) and symphonic band, but also available in a version for brass quintet only, which enlarges the practical possibilities for performance enormously. Lancen has certainly exceeded himself in this brilliant work. Following its premiere during the W.A.S.B.E. Congress in Boston in 1987, the 'Boston Globe' wrote: 'Far simpler but its own way more original was the 'Maskerade for Brass Quintet and Band' by Serge Lancen. Its eight movements are unabashedly tonal, throughout a cheerful carnival of simple, sincere ideas worked out with skill and good humor'. The premiere was given by the Dutch National Youth Symphonic Band conducted by Jan Cober.
