    Overture for Symphonic Band - Bin Kaneda

    Overture for Symphonic Band was composed in 1970 by Bin Kaneda at the request of the Yamaha Concert Band. This music was first performed by the Yamaha Concert Band at their regular spring concert in 1971 in Tokyo. The Overture is comprised of two movements - Andante and Allegro. The idea for the theme of the Allegro came to the composer during a Fall festival of the village in Shikoku Island, along the coast of the Inland Sea where he spent two years of his childhood. The Yamaha Concert Band won the Gold Medal award with the performance of this music at the All Japan Band Concert in the Fall of 1971.

    Ascent - Naoya Wada

    In May 2019, a new era of Japan Reiwa began. was composed to celebrate a new era as the last composition of previous Heisei era. The work opens with a bold fanfare with the main theme in the saxophones and horns. This theme is repeated throughout the piece in several forms. After a slow middle section, the piece progresses to a powerful ending with a solo gong, which hails the beginning of new era.

    Litany: "In Terra Pax" - Robert Jager

    Written following a visit to both the nuclear holocaust "ground zero" of Hiroshima, Japan, and the more conventional holocaust of Pearl Harbor, the opening of this work is meant to capture the solemn and mournful sound of the massive bell at Hiroshima's "ground zero." Remaining melancholy throughout, the composer writes, "The composition, like a prayer, has no answers. Maybe there is no answer. Perhaps a solution must be found within each of us, before there is no longer time." Litany was commissioned by the Galesburg-Augusta, MI, High School Band, Martin Benstein, conductor.
