Sir Dirk Bross, music director at the Philadelphia Chamber Orchestra, is a versatile composer of orchestral and symphonic repertoire, chamber music, film & musical. His compositions are performed worldwide by the most prominent orchestras and soloists. About the new series of 10 "Musical Postcards" for wind band, Dirk says the following: "Composing is a commitment; it is my life's mission. For me composing means creating a vacuum around myself and allowing myself to be submerged by impressions. It is a continual struggle between fantasy and reality, between dream and reality. Out of chaos of sounds and emotions I try to order my thoughts by juggling shreds of melodies, original chords, striking sound colours and alternating rhythms. Libby Larsen used three inspirations from her life to write Hambone. First, she was inspired by early rock 'n roll rhythms, particularly those written by Bo Diddley, from her high school days when she had her own rock band. The second inspiration is the African-American tradition of hamboning - clapping and slapping to create fun, new rhythms, and finally the melodies of the traditional cakewalk, reminiscent of Debussy's Golliwog's Cakewalk. The curriculum explores all three of these inspirations with various musical and visual examples, and explains African American oral traditions, linking this piece to places all over the world, from Ghana and the Ivory Coast to Paris, France. So Nata Per Te -- or Naci para ti in Spanish -- translates as "I was born for you". This symphonic suite is inspired by Pepe Domingo, a great music enthusiast and lover of life who wanted to commemorate his long and happy marriage to his dear wife, Concha. He commissioned Ferrar Ferran to set to music the great bond of their partnership: the couple will be able to close their eyes and relive through the music their most precious memories one by one.So Nata Per Te is a suite of many contrasts. Its contemporary, modern flavours are entertaining while the colourful variations are exciting and fascinating. Audience members may recall happy memories in their ownlives listening to the delightful, famous tunes that appear throughout the work and, although somewhat different from the originals, they are easily recognisable.Ferrer Ferran dedicated this work to Pepe Domingo and his wife Concha not only for their great enthusiasm and passion for music, but also for their mutual love. So Nata Per Te was premiered on 27 February 2010 at the Auditorio Florida of Paiporta (Spain) by the Banda Primitiva de Paiporta, conducted by the composer.

4 Miniatures for Winds: 1. Wind 2. Storm 3. Rain 4. Sun and Snow There was a little child who enthusiastically told a story ... and a composer who was equally inspired by the child and its story to write these miniatures. At the premier performance of my composition "Arcus" in March 2011, when I explained how a piece about the rainbow came into being, a little girl came up to me and asked: "Thiemo, what about the man in the clouds?" I obviously had forgotten to include him, though he is as the little girl informed me of extreme importance in the sky: "He sits in the clouds and is responsible for the weather. He shakes rain, wind, storm or snow out of the clouds, he pushes them aside to let the sunshine through or he models them into funny figures, making people on earth smile." Fascinated by the girl's ingenuous ideas I created this small composition, sitting in my study and letting my mind wander into the sky. As the man in the clouds naturally has to have a name, I decided to call him "Cloud(iu)s ... man in the clouds". I dedicate this piece to the children of my beginner's band, who show me again and again how wonderful and precious it is to delight in the small things in life ...
