    Foaming Sea - Robert Buckley

From Robert Buckley's grandly cinematic suite describing impressions of the seas of the moon, Foaming Sea (2nd movement) was inspired by the composer watching the ocean during a violent storm with waves exploding and crashing. The sense of excitement and exhilaration eventually leads to the calm after the storm, as turbulent darkness gives way to light. Dur: 4:40

    Daylight Funk - Haakon Esplo

Daylight Funk is a light, funky and catchy piece of music that will fit well for concerts with your young band throughout the year. With some challenges in leading parts and simple lower parts, this is a great piece to work with rhythmic figures, articulations and precision. Fantasia Helvetica - Jan Van der Roost

Pfarreimusik Wnnewil-Flamatt requested a new work to be commissioned for the celebration of its 111th anniversary. They asked the composer to create a piece lasting approximately 11 minutes and 11 seconds. The band asked Jan Van der Roost to reflect on a number of aspects from the past, as well as the current state of affairs. The piece contains lyrical movements, cheerful and jubilant parts, as well as light introverted sequences. Fantasia Helvetica is a varied concert piece with a number of challenging passages, but is also fun to play!

    Shadows Unseen - Todd Stalter

Composed using modified student-submitted melodic examples and ideas, this is a uniquely collaborative work evoking the darkness of the "shadows" we sometimes keep to ourselves. The piece ends optimistically, reminding us that shadows are small compared to the light around them. (3:45)

Variations on a Civil War Tune

This traditional tune, The Cumberland's Crew, was inspired by the historic gunship battle between the wooden Cumberland and the ironclad Virginia in 1862. The light and airy melody in 3/4 time develops a variety of textures and voicings and builds to a dramatic conclusion. This is an ideal choice to showcase the musicality of your developing band. Helios Rising - Todd Stalter

In Greek mythology, Helios is a Titan who faithfully drove the Sun's chariot across the sky each day, disappearing in the west into Oceanus (the ocean, which the Greeks believed encircled the Earth), and rising out of it again in the east the next morning. Helios' journey at sunrise is referenced musically by the ascending leap in the main theme and the strong driving rhythms of the low winds and percussion. The contrasting light and dark textures in the slow section depict twilight inevitably giving way to the darkness of night. (2:45)
