Sailing across the water, we are treated to magnificent vistas including both the city and the surrounding mountains. An early morning sunrise looking down on the vineyards of Sonoma was the inspiration for the center of the piece. The early morning mist combined with light and shadow creates a very peaceful scene that is not soon forgotten. The piece concludes with the return to the city providing a new perspective of this truly unique American landscape.

The Caravan Club - Karl L. King
The great Karl King wrote many wonderful marches, and "The Caravan Club" is one of his most interesting and unusual works. Heavy and ponderous at times, light and frisky at others, this march was used often in the circus to accompany tiger acts. An ominous introduction leads to a lumbering first strain, followed by a delightful contrasting, almost ragtime-like second strain. The trio features a wonderful melody with euphonium countermelody, in the style made so famous by King. The weighty breakstrain returns to a minor key feel, and then concludes with an embellished version of the trio. One of the march "King's" very best! Immense!

Viva Noel - Shaffer
"Viva Noel" is a medley of glorious holiday favorites in a fast/slow/fast form. Opening with a musical fanfare based on the French hymn "He is Born the Holy Child" the arrangement transitions quickly into a fanciful rendition of "Deck the Halls." The following section opens with a beautiful brass choir adaptation of "It Came Upon A Midnight Clear" and develops into a lush, full band setting of this charming carol. The finale begins as a quick, light version of "Here We Come a-Wassailing" ending with a declarative brass fanfare with small bits of "Bring a Torch, Jeannette Isabella" and "Angels We Have Hear on High."
