Burn the Church ! - Otto M. Schwarz

In the 16th century, Lille was part of Spanish-ruled Flanders, governed by Charles V and later Philip II. The region was shaken by civil, independence, and religious wars. Philip II persecuted Protestants, who were labeled as heretics and "the Wretched." On August 15, 1566, an uprising occurred with numerous plunderings in the region. On December 26, 1566, 400 "Wretched" attacked Wattrelos and defended themselves the next day in the cemetery and in the church. The Catholics set the church on fire, where many "Wretched" burned or fled. Some managed to escape with the help of the inhabitants. Wattrelos commemorates this event annually in September with the "Berlouffes" festival. During this festival, dolls are thrown from the church tower, and a large doll is burned.

In Flanders Fields - Guillaume Détrez

"In Flanders Fields" is a play recounting the Battle of Vimy Ridge (France) which took place from April 9 to 12, 1917. The introduction refers to the thousands of graves found at the site of Notre-Dame de Lorette. Then begins the episode of preparation and fierce battle. Thanks to the Canadian Expeditionary Force that came as reinforcements, the battle was won and the site secured at 6 a.m. (brass choir accompanied by 6 bells). The title of this work also refers to a poem by John Mac Rae located at the entrance to the memorial museum."In Flanders Fields"By Col. John McCrae,In Flanders Fields The poppies blowBetween the crosses row on rowThat mark our place; and in the skyThe larks, still bravely singing, flyScarce heard amid the guns below. We are the dead, short days agoWe lived, felt dawn, saw sunset glow,Loved and were loved and now we lieIn Flanders Fields.Take up our quarrel with the foeTo you, from failing hands, we throwThe torch, be yours to hold it high.If ye break faith with us, who dieWe shall not sleep, though poppies growIn Flanders Fields

La Sierra Negra - Eduardo M. Brito

The irresistible beauty of Latin American music led Eduardo Brito to write this fantasy. In "La Sierra Negra," we travel through a rich melodic landscape that always balances between the characteristics of traditional Mexican music and the cultural influences of Spanish music."La Sierra Negra" (Black Mountain) is named after an extinct Mexican volcano. The name contrasts with "Pico de Orizaba," a neighboring dormant volcano that is covered with snow year-round and called "White Mountain" by locals.
