Uncle Henry - Howard E. Akers

Howard Akers pays tribute to Henry with this stellar march that was originally published one year After Fillmore's death in 1957. In 1890 'The High School Cadets', a popular drill team attached to the very first high school in Washington D.C., asked John Philip Sousa to write a march for the group. They requested a 'better' march than the one Sousa had written for their rivals 'The National Fencibles'. Indeed, The High School Cadets became one of the most popular of Sousa's 136 marches. Pi Scheffer wrote this fine arrangement with Dixieland combo, which was made extremely popular by the recording made by the famous Dutch Swing College Band.

"Invincible" by Eugene Magalif is a reconstruction of a concert march originally composed by Konstantin Georgiadi, a prisoner from Stalin's GULAG camps. Following approximately two decades in the camps, Georgiadi became a teacher at a music college in Zaporizhia, Ukraine, although following his death, his archives were destroyed. Composer Eugene Magalif's father had met Georgiadi in a GULAG. Occasionally, during Eugene's youth, his father played this march for him, and this reconstruction consists of memories of particular phrases from the piece.
