The ancestry of the Royal Marines dates back to the raising in 1664 of the Duke of York and Albanys Regiment, better known as the Admirals Regiment. Sir Vivian wrote this march to celebrate the Tercentenary o the Royal Marines, and it was included in the programme of music performed at the celebratory Royal Review of the Corps held in the grounds of Buckingham Palace in 1964.

Coronation March is in ABA form with just a tip of the hat to William Walton's famous coronation marches written for British monarchs of the 20th century. Kingsfold is a lovely setting of the modal English traditional tune set to the text O Sing a Song of Bethlehem, featuring solos for flute and trumpet with chamber music textures. Variations on a 'Green' Theme begins with a jig in the percussion and reeds before slowly revealing the identity of the theme being varied - Greensleeves. Philip Sparke wrote this march for the famous brass band contest held ever year on Whit Friday in Oldham and Saddleworth. Given the competition's long history (over 120 years), he consciously composed this piece in a very traditional march form.
