An American Celebration (Concert Band with Optional Choir - Score and Parts) - Strommen, Carl

This medley was composed for the combination of your two- or three-part choir and your young band. The instrumental part can be performed by intermediate bands or by more advanced ensembles with limited rehearsal, while not appearing transparent. The choral parts are sold separately (SVM01082) and are attainable by intermediate level performers through high school. A great addition to the patriotic literature, this medley includes "America the Beautiful," "When Johnny Comes Marching Home," "Yankee Doodle," "The Battle Hymn of the Republic," "You're a Grand Old Flag," and "America." The instrumental transitions significantly contribute to the musical effect and offer an opportunity for the ensemble to perform as well as provide vocal accompaniment. An absolute must for all of your patriotic performance needs. Duration: 5.30

RED MACHINE (Concert Band) - Graham, Peter

Among the Coldstream Guard's duties is the famous changing of the guard ceremony at Buckingham Palace where their reputation for precision marching has led to them being described as the 'Red Machine'. The music reflects the title and heritage of this fine group; from the aggressive, machine-type music of the opening, the contrasting nostalgic French-flavoured waltz through the recapitulation and vivace finale. Listeners may hear references to music associated with the band, from Holst (the Planets) through the opening phrase of the chorale Ein Feste Burg - familiar to British Guards Bands from the troop march Huguenots.

Triumphal March (Concert Band - Score and Parts)

The Gran Finale from the second act of Verdi's famous opera Aida, composed in 1869, is a complex part of the drama as in one single scene many different characters, allwith contrasting emotions, appear onstage at the same time. The scene opens in Ancient Egypt when the Egyptian general Radames and his troops, which have just beaten Ethiopia, come marching in. The Egyptians sing a celebration song for him and there is a sound of trumpets playing the triumphal march to receive the hero. The well-known triumphal march, transcribed in this edition for concert band by Franco Cesarini, closely follows Verdi's original score and will bring any concert to a dramatic close. 05:30

TWO SONGS WITHOUT WORDS (Concert Band) - Holst, Gustav - Erickson, Frank

Two Songs Without Words was composed in 1906 and was dedicated to Ralph Vaughan Williams and is similar in style to his two suites for band. The Country Song opens with the principal theme as an unaccompanied clarinet solo, followed by its repetition in the full woodwind section. The main theme returns in a "maestoso" setting before fading into a quite closing. Marching Song is characterized by a distinctive running sixteenth note figure. The principal melody, first played by the low woodwinds, is punctuated by these same running sixteenth note fragments. Both themes are again repeated with much variation before the tempo picks up into a short coda-style ending.
