The Battle of Varlar Wind Band Set (Score & Parts)

The work calls to mind an important event from the history of the city Coesfeld in Germany: the battle of Varlar, which took place in the year 1454. The composition presents us with a bird's eye view of the events: First of all, the consecration of the chapel on the Klinkenberg mountain is set to music in a hymn, after which the trumpets and trombones announce the imminent battle. In the subsequent fray not only the sounds of sabres and rapiers can clearly be heard but also the wailing of the wounded. When the Duke of Brunswick is wounded and captured by the troops of Walraf, Konrad von Diepen and his men march on Coesfeld in victory. Set against a festive melody, the hymn resounds in full glory. 07:00

The Road to the West Wind Band Set (Score & Parts)

As he did before in the often played and commonly appreciated 'Lord Tullamore', in which he poetically depicted the landscape and the cultural elements of a small Irish village, in his composition 'The Road to the West' Carl Wittrock has sketched pioneer existence in America in a cinematic manner. In 'The Road to the West' the composer has tried to capture images of pioneer life during the period dating from 1850 to 1890, the days of the so-called Wild West.In those days, the Wild West used to be the territory west of civilization, the domain of cowboys, trappers, and other fortune hunters. In short, ample ingredients for a captivating story. In the first scene a lonely adventurer struggles against nature and the elements. After an exciting adventure he passes through 'the Plains', where majestic views alternated by colossal mountain ranges display an almost unimaginable beauty. After weeks of isolation civilization is reached again. 'The Saloon' is the perfect meeting place - here news is exchanged and hilarious scenes regularly take place. 08:00

TURN THE WORLD AROUND (Intermediate Concert Band) - Brown, Michael

Harry Belafonte's masterful song about the interconnection between fire, water, mountain and spirit was performed to much acclaim on the The Muppet Show in 1977. The song, which explains that through understanding we can all "turn the world around," became a favourite of Muppet creator Jim Henson and was performed at his memorial service. Featuring an infectious African-flavored groove in 5/4, this is a unique and effective setting for band.

Yamanobe no Michi Wind Band Set (Score & Parts)

"Yamanobe no Michi" (road at the foot of a mountain) is located east of the Yamato basin. It is the oldest road in Japan and is about 35km (21.5 miles) long. The oldest market and positions used for trading merchandise over the centuries are found along this road. While composing this work the composer visualised the activity along "Yamanobe no Michi" imagining the solemn procession of the aristocracy, as well as the chaos that traffic often presents. He also kept in mind the tumultuous history that this road has seen and still represents today. 0:06:00
