The Noble Stand - Kevin Kaisershot
In August 480 BC, the Battle of Thermopylae, a small mountain pass in central Greece, was fought between an alliance of Greek city-states and the invading Persian Empire of Xerxes I. Vastly outnumbered, the Greeks held up the Persians advance for seven days in total (including three of battle), before the rear-guard was annihilated in one of history's most famous and noble last stands. Here, in a piece for young band, are the musical images of battles being waged and armies on the march.

Temple in the Clouds - David Marlatt
This piece is an ethereal and effective work for winds, piano, and percussion. It opens with three solo flutes echoing a call as if it were played on a mountain top. Various soloists are featured throughout, including flute, oboe, clarinet, and alto saxophone. Full sonorous brass section moments contrast the clear, lightly scored woodwind texture. Powerful and transparent. (5:00)"This colorful work will program well as a change-of-pace moment" -

The music is a free form, a symphonic rhapsody, developed from four main themes derived from ancient Cree tribal rhythms and dances.
