"The Old Fortress of Luxembourg" is a commissioned work by the Luxembourg Ministry of Culture for the overture of the official ceremony of Luxembourg's National Day. The piece is less concerned with history, but rather draws inspiration from the architecture of the ancient fortress of Luxembourg, known as Lucilinburhuc."The fortress, over 1000 years old and also referred to as the "Gibraltar of the North," primarily consists today of the Bock Rock, the crypt, the casemates (an underground defense system consisting of kilometers of tunnels), and the Holy Spirit Citadel. These elements are portrayed through radiant fanfare sounds, rhythmic orchestral movements, patriotic choral melodies, and at times, somber musical depictions.As an optional highlight, a choir, supported by a boys' choir, interprets the newly composed text of the third verse of the Luxembourgish National Anthem, adding an additional touch of patriotic grandeur to this piece.

This work was composed as ceremonial music, as part of a march medley for the participants' entry for the 71st National Sports Festival and the 16th National Disabled Personnel Sports Festival, held in Iwate Prefecture in 2016. The European premiere of this piece took place in December of that year, the composer guest conducting the Young Musicians from Fribourg, Switzerland. This work, fusing Japanese folk song with march music, will have wide appeal, like the sister work March-Bou-Shu, also published by de Haske Publications.

The Way to Heaven was commissioned by the Royal Air Force Music Services. 2015 was the 75th anniversary of the Battle of Britain, which took place between July and October 1940, when the courageous fighter pilots of the Royal Air Force thwarted Hitler's ambitions to launch an invasion on the UK.The Way to Heaven opens with fluttering woodwind figures and brass fanfares, which build to a climax before a change of key introduces a short quotation for the Polish National Anthem - Mazurek Dbrowskiego. This fades and you can hear the signal to scramble and the throaty sounds of the squadron's Merlin engines bursting into life before theyline up to take off. This leads to the main thematic material of the work, which depicts the heaven-bound flight of 303 Squadron as it climbs to intercept the incoming Messerschmitt 109s. A brief allusion to the Polish national anthem brings the piece to a triumphant close.

The strong voice of Finnish national romanticism Armas Jrnefelt (1869-1958) composed his jubilant Festouverture (Festive Overture) for the official opening of the Finnish National Theatre on 9 April 1902 Robert J. Best known for his military marches, John Philip Sousa was an American composer and conductor of the late Romantic era. Sousa's most famous marches include 'The Liberty Bell', 'The Thunderer', 'The WashingtonPost', 'Semper Fidelis' (Official March of the United States Marine Corps), and 'The Stars and Stripes Forever' (National March of the United States of America).The Northern Pines march was composed in 1931and is scored for Concert Band. Named for the tall and beautiful pine trees that blanket the National Music Camp at Interlochen in northern Michigan, Sousa dedicated the march to the students who came to the camp and toDr Joseph Maddy, its founder. It consists of three movements and, rated as a first international category or national excellence grade piece, it requires the appropriate variety of timbres and instrumentalists with the necessary skills. The themes, enhanced by the use of unusual tones and compound beats, are often broken, interrupted: hence the title of the piece, intermissions, meaning interruptions. The unifying element is the musical language that, through the use of artificial modes and fourths, seeks to create a balance between tensions of differing intensity and nature.
