This novel setting of the traditional carol Good King Wenceslas will musically transport you and your students to the royal Christmas banquet hall of a medieval king! The old carol tells the story of a legendary 10th-century monarch, Duke Wenceslas of Bohemia, who went out in the severe cold to give charity to the poor on December 26, also known as St. Stephen's Day. The well-known 13th-century tune, as well as additional original material in period style, vividly conjures a lively celebration of Christmas in the high Middle Ages. Come now ye lords and ladies to the Feast of Stephen and upon your instruments faire make most merry this Yuletide! Duration: 2.30

Papyrus (Bearer of Wisdom) (Concert Band - Score and Parts) - Doss, Thomas

The history of paper ranges over more than five thousand years: likely starting around 3500 BC in old Egypt with the use of papyrus. The oldest findings of written paper date from 2700 BC. In China, the first production of paper took place in the year 105 AD. The Arabs acquired their knowledge of the art of making paper around 750 AD, thanks to Chinese prisoners of war. Around the same time, the Celtic Ogham script was created in Ireland and carved into stones or trees. In Europe, the first paper mill was not put into operation until the 12th century! No matter how different the production methods and its historical use, paper was always a way to pass on wisdom, art and knowledge. Even today, in the age of digitalisation, paper still has a somewhat 'sacred' image. With Papyrus, Thomas Doss has written a wonderful composition in which the history of paper is reflected, and listeners can very much hear the various periods of this history represented throughout the piece. The music for Puff, the Magic Dragon was written by Peter Yarrow from the group Peter, Paul and Mary. Jackie Paper, a little boy who grows up while loosing the childhoods imagined fairy tales, let Puff be with himself. Franarormen (Optional Piano Solo with Concert Band - Score and Parts) - Aagaard-Nilsen, Torstein

In 1911, the Australian pianist and composer (and friend of Edvard Grieg), Percy Grainger (1882-1961) went on a tour in Norway. He performed more than forty concerts over a few months. Fifty years later, in 2011, The Royal Norwegian Marine Band made a concert project called "Percy Grainger Revisited Tour". "Franarormen" is a worm or a dragon as described in norse medieval ballads. I have used four different tunes from the region Telemark were Fr?narormen is mentioned in the text. The piece is a musical reflection - not at all as drammatic as the text. It is like a picture of an old fairytale and a dwell on the sound of ancient songs. The piece can be performed without the piano part. Instructions to be found in the percussion parts. - Torstein Aagaard-Nilsen
