In the 1980s and 1990s there was a new surge of interest in the old swing of the 30s and 40s. The epicentre of this swing revival lay in the American state of California, Los Angeles and San Francisco in particular. Based on the rules of the old swing in which each beat has a ternary subdivision but with more contemporary sounds and harmonies, Peter Kleine Schaars composed this work San Francisco Swing. Through the frequent use of the rhythmic cells 22 and 24 in all parts of this composition, each band, irrespective of its experience with swing music, will be able to give a swinging performance!Duration: 3.00

I wrote Labyrinth to celebrate the 450th anniversary for the city of Fredrikstad. The Danish king Fredrik II agreed to establish a new town further down the river Glomma, to make it easier to defend from the Swedes. The piece is a network of quotations mixed with my own pitch material. My versions of the quoted melodies are not authentic, and sometimes hard to recognize. However, the different quotations give the music an aura of tonality. For example, a dance tune composed by the Flemish composer Mattheus Le Maistre (1505-1577). The melody also occurs in the first danish book of hymns written after the reformation. Since Norway for 400 years was a part of Denmark and everybody had to write and read Danish, they used much of the same music, too. I also use regular Danish hymn tunes and quote from a religious folk song from the area around Fredrikstad. The military signals I use are authentic (for example, The Old Danish March), and I am very sure they were used in the Old Town (the fortress) of Fredrikstad. The drums quote from The Downfall of Paris. This could have been heard played by professional soldiers hired by the Swedes from Scotland. £225.00The Wand of Youth, Suite No.1 (Complete) (Concert Band - Score and Parts) - Elgar, Edward - Noble, Paul
The Wand of Youth suites, subtitled Music to a Child's Play, were written in 1869 when Elgar was only twelve years old, music written for a play and acted by the Elgar children for a private family theatrical production. He noted the tunes down in a sketchbook and in 1907, forty years later, he rearranged with only minor changes and orchestrated them as the two suites titled The Wand of Youth, Suite Nos. 1 and 2. Although The Wand of Youth suites date from Elgar's mature years, he insisted on calling it Opus 1, because he wrote these pieces originally for piano many years earlier. Suite No.1 includes seven movements: 1. Overture; 2. Serenade; 3. Minuet (Old Style); 4. Sun Dance; 5. Fairy Pipers; 6. Slumber Scene; and 7. Fairies and Giants.
