Suite on Celtic Folk Songs - Tomohiro Tatebe

This suite for wind band consists of three Old Irish melodies: "March" is a traditional Irish march of slower 6/8 beat. Led by a characteristically accented drum, the drone effect of a Uilleann bagpipe rings through for an air of courage. Next is a beautiful and nostalgic theme titled "Yellow Village Gate" in Gaelic, the first language of Ireland. Here, a solo piccolo presents the image of a simple fife. "Reel" is a typical Irish dance of very quick tempo. Maintaining the pace from beginning to end, intensified motion combining duple and 6/8 meter drives through to the coda's bold conclusion. Stephen Bulla strikes gold again with this accessible but jazzy Trombone section feature. There is plenty of rhythmic fun for everyone while the trombones get that important time out front. If you prefer, two Trombone soloists can be featured while the rest of the section plays along on the Euphonium part. Your band will want to do this one again and again, and so will you, so Get On Board!

    Cartoon Capers - Stephen Bulla

All right. Admit it. When you were a kid, some of your favorite music came from cartoonland. Who knows? It may have been cartoons that first introduced you to your favorite classical masters. Would Rossini's "William Tell Overture" be what it is today had there been no cartoons? Isn't the glissando the REAL reason your Trombone section decided to play that particular instrument? Treat yourself, your band, and your audience to some good old animated goofiness, a few merry melodies, and a lot of slapstick fun. They'll love it. What could be more fun than Stephen Bulla's CARTOON CAPERS?
