The Message on the Rock - Robert Sheldon
The musical inspiration for this piece came from the scenes and speeches on a rock emblazoned with battle scenes from our nation's history. The piece opens with a military-sounding march that leads to a solemn section over which a narrator reads the speeches seen on the rock while a muted trumpet plays "Taps" in the background. The initial march then returns, with fragments of numerous patriotic melodies juxtaposed with the original melody, coming to an exciting ending. (4:45) This title is available in SmartMusic.

The Great Land Run - Anderson
An exciting journey through the old west, "The Great Land Run" paints an exhilarating picture of 1889 Oklahoma. A fanfare-like main theme at the beginning is followed by the night around the campfire. As the settlers rest, a gentle storm washes over them bringing forth the questions of what tomorrow may bring. As morning rises, they head back on their way to stake their plot of land and new life. A powerful recap of the main theme drives this piece to an exciting end. From the Highlands - Marco Pütz
Enjoying his travels in Scotland, Marco Ptz decided to compose a piece for wind band, based on Scottish folk songs. While in the airport at Glasgow, shortly before boarding his plane, Ptz bought a collection of folk melodies from all over Scotland that had been arranged for flute. At first he harmonized several melodies in his own style, then he began to alter the resulting pieces (especially rhythmically). Eventually Ptz added passages here and there and orchestrated the piece for wind band. Ptz's resulting composition is an educational work that is both enjoyable and appealing to players of all ages, although it was written with young bands in mind. From theHighlands is part of a project to increase the repertoire available to youth and school bands, both in quantity and quality; an important personal and musical goal for the composer. This is Ptz's third contribution of this sort to be added to the De Haske catalogue, following his successful Arrows of Lightning and Four Sketches for Band.
