In Darkest Night (Concert Band - Score and Parts) - Kopetz, Barry E.
In Darkest Night was composed to highlight the dark, thick and rich quality of the key of C minor. As musical keys have long been associated with various states of emotion, C minor has often been called the "key of darkness." The slow introduction presents the primary theme in augmented fashion over a C pedal point, leading to the robust Allegro Ritmico. The theme is aggressive, poignant, terse, and yes... dark! The piece concludes with a series of rapid, pounding, off-beat C minor triads preceding the final chord. Duration: 2.15

Alpha Squadron (Concert Band - Score and Parts) - Hillis, Greg
Powerful unisons open this piece and continue as the trumpets state the heroic melody. A countermelody is then placed over this in the woodwinds. Alternating between marcato and legato sections, this is a good piece for teaching contrasting styles. Students will love the minor key and the power of playing tutti. A great opener for your autumn concert.Duration: 2.00

At Dawn They Slept (December 7, 1941) (Concert Band - Score and Parts) - Bocook, Jay
Premiered at Pearl Harbor, this work from Jay Bocook is a musical remembrance of that fateful day that launched our country into WWII. Opening with a beautiful and flowing melody featuring the woodwinds, the day begins with a lone bugler but with ominous undertones foretelling the chaos to follow. The attack is depicted using inventive scoring textures, dissonances and percussion. In the final segment, the opening melody returns juxtaposed over a strong rhythmic pulse in a hopeful look to the future. A powerful musical statement from a most gifted composer!
