This work was commissioned by the civilian wind orchestra Shimizu il compagno, based in Shimizu City, Shizuoka Prefecture, Japan, as a commemorative work for their 10th Anniversary. The world premiere was performed by the ensemble, conducted by Hiromichi Hamada in 2017. Having held discussions with the head of the orchestra, Tomohiro Tsuji, and members of the group, Satoshi Yagisawa settled on a central motif for this commemorative work: fellow, or companion, in the sense of the Italian il compagno, which features in the orchestra's name. The work also strives to describe the characteristic friendliness of Shimizu city, a place known for its warmth and kindness which is visible from both Mount Fuji and the sea. The composition is written in Yagisawa's typical dramatic style with an atmosphere of scintillating light and lyrical warmth, making it an excellent choice for opening a concert.Duration: 5.15

The Wand of Youth suites, subtitled Music to a Child's Play, were written in 1869 when Elgar was only twelve years old, music written for a play and acted by the Elgar children for a private family theatrical production. He noted the tunes down in a sketchbook and in 1907, forty years later, he rearranged with only minor changes and orchestrated them as the two suites titled The Wand of Youth, Suite Nos. 1 and 2. Although The Wand of Youth suites date from Elgar's mature years, he insisted on calling it Opus 1, because he wrote these pieces originally for piano many years earlier.

Bisham Grange Overture (Concert Band - Score and Parts)
A brilliant fanfare for full band leads to an interesting melody in the Bristish folksong style. Constantaly shifting harmonies add color and interest. Solos for trumpet and flute are brief and not technically demanding. Very nice!

Holiday Festival Overture (Concert Band - Score and Parts)
A delightful piece for holiday concerts that is chock full of fun for the players and audience alike. Ed Huckeby's tasty composition is very musical for this grade level and yet it's quite playable and can be prepared with a minimum of rehearsal time. Thoroughly enjoyable!
