Highland Fling (Concert Band - Score and Parts) - Jager, Robert

This very playable and appealing overture by Robert Jager is sure to be enjoyable by younger players. Bold and dignified characterize the opening segment which is followed by an energetic faster theme reminiscent of a Scottish Highland dance. A tender hymn-like melody is then developed before returning to the faster theme and powerful closing coda. Very well scored to sound full.

Orpheus in the Underworld (Concert Band - Score and Parts) - Offenbach, Jacques - Van der Beek, Wil

Jacques Offenbach was born in 1819 in Cologne, Germany, but as a child he moved to Paris where he received a thorough musical education. In his operetta Orpheus in the Underworld, Offenbach parodies the famous Greek legend of Orpheus and Euridice. Indirectly, however, he criticises the complacency of many of his contemporaries. The overture was not written entirely by Offenbach, Carl Binder added various pieces to it for a Viennese production of this operetta in 1860 and since then, these pieces have remained part of the composition. This appealing transcription includes the famous Can Can which is sure to get your audience high kicking in the aisles!Duration: 9:15

Eine Kleine Rockmusik (Concert Band - Score and Parts) - Jennings, Paul

By the time the Mozart family tree had blossomed into the twentieth century, there was very little genius left in the bloodline. Unfortunately, though, at least one unscrupulous descendant, Wolfbane Amarillo Mozart, decided to capitalize on the family name by becoming a rock and roll composer. His only real talent seems to be plagarism, but your students and audiences will have a ball unraveling his zany conconction. Includes: The Boy from New York City; Pachelbel's Canon; Earth Angel; 1812 Overture; Eine Kleine Nachtmusik, K.525; A Groovy Kind of Love; The Loco-Motion; Mony, Mony; New World Symphony (Theme); Ode to Joy; Peter and the Wolf (Theme); You've Lost That Lovin' Feelin'.

New World Dances (Concert Band - Score only) - Ellerby, Martin

Cast in three short movements the work endeavours to recreate the pioneering spirit of the journey across America (the then 'New World') as this vast continent was opened up and its wonders exposed. The three dance episodes that make up the suite are symbolic in an analogous sense to this 'reaching' principle: the first - Earth Dance - is a vigorous overture, pushing out the frontiers; the interlude - Moon Dance - contemplates the huge distances to be crossed and Sun Dance represents the realisation of the American dream, rhythmic and full of energy. Written in affectionate tribute to America and its people, New World Dances was rather symbolically completed on July 4th!Grade 6Performance time 8'45"Recorded on QPRM134D The Kings Go Forth, Central Band of the Royal Air Force

    Cedar Creek Sketches

An exciting overture that begins with a slow lyrical introduction before leading into a very rhythmic and energetic allegro section. The slow melodic middle section contains an optional trumpet solo. Cued throughout to allow for different musical colors and it offers the stability that less experienced players need. This effective composition provides a welcome opportunity for all instruments to experience playing the melody. Excellent for building confidence in young or inexperienced groups while providing a delightful concert or contest selection. Exceptional teaching material.

HARLEQUIN (Broughton) (Concert Band) - Broughton, Bruce

The characteristics are aptly portrayed musically in Bruce Broughton's mini concert overture. Originally published for brass band in 1984, this revised version for wind band conveys all the hustle, bustle, and agility of the character in a finely crafted musical structure. Ideal as a concert opener or encore, it is sure to delight audiences and provide players with an exciting new addition to their repertoire. Duration: 3:00 American Grade 4+

Scramble! (Concert Band - Score and Parts) - Hess, Nigel

Commissioned in 1994 by the Royal Air Force, 'Scramble!' Is a concert overture for symphonic wind band inspired by images of the RAF's airfields during the Battle of Britain, immortalised for ever in such films as Reach for the Skies. The pastoral opening depicts the lull before the storm: the young pilots sitting in wicker chairs outside their barracks on a sunlit morning. The peace is, of course, deceptive, suddenly amid siren sounds, there is a shout of 'Scramble!', and a rush to the waiting planes. In no time at all the squadron is airborne, heading for a skirmish over the English Channel and beyond. A lyrical central section featuring a solo cornet depicts the stillness many pilots described as they flew to engage the enemy, before the battle breaks out once more. For those who returned, it would be only a short while before, once again, they would hear the familiar shout of 'Scramble!'Duration: 7.00
